Job description
Job Summary

Use a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair mechanical plant machinery and equipment to operational standards.

Work includes the identification of defective or worn mechanical components or equipment, repair/replacement of worn/faulty components or equipment, and modifications.

Parts may be repaired or manufactured using the general application of workshop machines.

Use precision measuring instruments to check parts for accuracy and fit.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Unpack rotor and other small parts.
  • Apply mask to rotor before blast cleaning according to established procedure.
  • Blast cleaning operation (In the blast booth, wearing blast suit and respirator)
  • Rotate the rotor in the blast booth by human power together with co-workers.
  • Give direction to crane operator about handling of rotor.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Carry-in/out the rotor to/from the blast booth.
  • Safety monitoring of blast cleaning operator from outside of blast booth
  • Collect blast media (grass beads) in the blast booth in order to recycle them.
  • Keep inside and outside of blast booth clean.
  • Dispose dust discharged from a dust collection system of blast facilities.
  • Familiar with using inside outside micrometer and able to measure rotor and its components accurately.
  • Familiar with using vernier caliper.
  • Perform stacking and unstacking of impeller to/from the compressor shaft by shrink fitting method with supervision (in cooperation with co-workers using gas torches).
  • Perform runout correction of impeller with supervision (in cooperation with co-workers using gas torches).
  • Remove and re-assemble small parts of rotor with supervision.
  • Remove and re-assemble coupling hub and thrust disc by hydro fitting method.
  • Perform blading work of turbine rotor under the supervision of expert.
  • Perform dynamic balancing of rotor and components of rotor using balancing machine
  • Measure the inside diameter of heated impeller smoothly and quickly using inside micrometer before shrink fitting.
  • Measure the surface temperature of heated impeller using contact thermometer.
  • Perform cleaning and hand finishing of rotor and its components.
  • Install dummy shaft into impeller before impeller solo balancing.
  • Remove dummy shaft from impeller after impeller solo balancing.
  • Perform unbalance correction of impeller using grinder according to the directions from machinist or engineer.
  • Raise rotor up/down in cooperation with crane operator, using rotor raising stand and crane.
  • Check level of impeller and its table before stacking.
  • Measure the gap using feeler gauge.
  • Smoothen up corrosion, dent marks, scratches, stripes and scales of rotor according to the directions from engineer.
  • Apply short term rust preventive oil during works.
  • Apply long term rust preventive oil before shipment.
  • Perform packing work according to established procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on blast machine as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on VTL and CNC lathe as required (in cooperation with machinist.)
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on balancing machine as required (in cooperation with machinist.)
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
  • Perform un-blading and blading onto GT rotor.
  • Perform coupling blued check (coupling surface contact check) of rotor
