Job Purpose
To provide expert-level Control & Instrumentation engineering leadership during project development stages, including concept design, feasibility studies, pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed engineering. The Lead Engineer, C&I ensures technical integrity of control system and instrumentation designs, reviews vendor documentation, supports engineering scoping, and ensures all project deliverables comply with Maaden standards, functional safety requirements, and international best practices.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead C&I engineering activities throughout the project development lifecycle—concept, feasibility, pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design.
- Develop and review project C&I design basis, control philosophies, functional specifications, and instrumentation standard.
- Review, validate, and approve vendor documents including instrument datasheets, control system architecture, I/O lists, logic diagrams, C&E matrices, and technical offers.
- Conduct technical bid evaluations (TBEs) for DCS/PLC systems, field instrumentation, analyzers, and control valve packages.
- Ensure control system and instrumentation designs comply with Maaden standards, functional safety requirements, and international codes (IEC, ISA, IEC 61511, NFPA).
- Review and guide development of system architecture, network design, cybersecurity considerations, and interface requirements.
- Evaluate and approve engineering deliverables from EPC contractors, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and constructability.
- Support and participate in design reviews, HAZOP/LOPA, SIL studies, and ensure action items are closed in alignment with project requirements.
- Provide technical input to project cost estimation, risk evaluation, schedule development, and project execution strategies.
- Support preparation of RFQs and tender documents for C&I packages; participate in vendor selection and technical clarifications.
- Review FAT/SAT procedures and support verification of vendor testing plans before equipment delivery.
- Coordinate C&I interfaces with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil/Structural, and IT/OT teams to ensure integrated project design.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, evaluations, and presentations for project stakeholders and management.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications in functional safety (TÜV/EXIDA), DCS/PLC platforms, or industrial cybersecurity (ISA/IEC 62443) are an advantage.
- Minimum Experience:
- 8–12 years of relevant C&I engineering experience in mining, metals, petrochemical, or heavy industrial plants.
- Strong experience in DCS, PLC, SCADA, field instrumentation, analyzers, and control valve systems.
- Proven experience in functional safety, control logic development, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
