Role Description
The Trade Compliance Manager will manage compliance with trade regulations, oversee regulatory compliance, analyze data, ensure legal compliance, and manage financial aspectsrelated to trade compliance. This position is also responsible for developing andimplementing the Fiscal andOperationalStrategies of Foreign Tradeand Customs Compliance that areinterrelated with other areas of theCompany.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with Mexican customs laws and regulations (Ley Aduanera, Reglas Generales de Comercio Exterior, etc.) across all import/exportoperations.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of customs complianceprograms, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee and manage customs brokers, ensuring proper classification, valuation, and documentation of imported/exported goods.
- Coordinate audits and respond to inquiries from Mexican customs authorities(SAT, Secretaría de Economía).
- Manage the correct application of trade agreements (T-MEC/USMCA, etc.), IMMEXprogram, and PROSEC.
- Develop internal training and guide teams on compliance bestpractices and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with supply chain, legal, logistics, and finance teams to minimizerisk and ensure seamless cross-border operations.
- Maintain metrics and reporting related to customs compliance and identify areas of risk or improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Law, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in customs compliance, strongly emphasizing Mexican regulations and manufacturing operations.
- Expert knowledge of Mexican Customs Law, T-MEC/USMCA, IMMEX, and PROSEC programs.
- Experience managing interactions with customs brokers, authorities, andgovernment agencies.
- Proven ability to lead audits and mitigate customs-related risks in complex supplychains.
- Bilingual: Spanish and English (advanced proficiency required).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
Preferred
- Certification in customs or trade compliance (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist, OEA/C-TPAT program involvement).
- Experience in a multinational manufacturing company.
- Working knowledge of ERP and trade management systems (SAP GTS, etc.).
