The Quality Manager is responsible for leading all quality assurance and quality control activities in a high-volume metal-mechanical automotive environment. This role ensures compliance with IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements (CSRs), and internal standards, while driving continuous improvement initiatives through Lean Manufacturing, problem-solving methodologies, and robust process controls.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Lead and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and OEM requirements.
- Ensure alignment with customer-specific requirements, APQP processes, and PPAP submissions.
- Manage internal and external audits; coordinate corrective action plans and ensure timely closure.
- Maintain quality documentation, procedures, work instructions, and control plans.
Product & Process Quality
- Oversee product quality verification, dimensional inspection, metal-mechanical specifications, and weld/joining processes.
- Implement and maintain robust process controls, including PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC studies.
- Lead nonconformance management, including containment, defect analysis, and root cause identification.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, VSM, Poka-Yoke).
- Promote continuous improvement culture across production, quality, and engineering teams.
- Reduce scrap, rework, and warranty claims through systemic problem-solving and preventive actions.
- Implement process optimization strategies to improve capability (Cpk/Ppk) and reduce variation.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the Quality team (supervisors, engineers, technicians, inspectors).
- Ensure adequate training in quality standards, lean tools, safety, and automotive core tools.
- Promote an accountability culture focused on compliance, problem‑solving, and customer satisfaction.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Serve as main contact for customer quality concerns, escalations, audits, and launches.
- Lead problem‑solving activities using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and other methodologies.
- Manage supplier quality performance; support audits, PPAP approvals, and incoming quality improvements.
- Monitor key metrics such as RPPM, PPM, scrap cost, warranty returns, and supplier scorecards.
3. Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or related).
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in Quality within the metal‑mechanical automotive industry.
- Strong knowledge of:
- IATF 16949 / ISO 9001
- Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC)
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
- Weld processes, metal stamping, forming, machining, and assembly
- Experience leading customer audits and managing OEM/Tier 1 requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership managing quality teams.
- Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills.
4. Preferred Qualifications
- Black Belt or Green Belt certification.
- Experience with BIQ, VDA 6.3 audits, layered audits.
- Experience in metal stamping, welding, CNC machining, or metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
