We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead a team of engineers in Mexico, responsible for designing, building, and deploying UI technology for investment managers handling buy-side research content. You will report to the Tech Lead and collaborate with a US-based project team, managing local engineers to deliver high-quality, performant web applications.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Partner with clients to lead the design and development of user experiences using modern web technologies. Manage a team of front-end engineers and coordinate with key stakeholders to deliver excellent software within client environments.
2. Contribute to the Lab49 Engineering Team by sharing your passion and expertise, helping to foster a culture of high-quality software development.
3. Hands-on engineering and architecture: Support initiatives, design, and build complex systems. Lead projects, serve as a role model, and collaborate across practices for successful outcomes.
4. Build client relationships: Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients, acting as a strategic partner and technical advisor, and helping to expand our business.
5. Support business development: Collaborate with the team to create pitches, define problems, present solutions, and negotiate engagement terms. Engage in industry events and public speaking to grow your network.
6. Develop management skills: Foster strategic career planning and development within the engineering team.

Required Skills and Experience

1. 10+ years designing and building complex software, with 5+ years leading Agile teams.
2. Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
3. Experience managing project teams and engaging with clients in finance, consulting, or startups.
4. Passion for technology and innovation, staying current with industry trends.
5. Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React.
6. Experience with cloud platforms and SDLC practices like continuous delivery.
7. Strong understanding of testing, quality, CI, source control, and code reviews.
8. Excellent written and spoken English and communication skills.

Bonus Points

• Experience with financial tools like Bloomberg, Symphony, Excel, Salesforce, Databricks, etc.
• Experience with other JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (Angular, Vue).
• Experience in capital markets, especially buy-side investment management.
• Experience with Terraform, backend engineering (C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core), SQL, and AWS.
