ESSENTIAL AND DETAILED FUNCTIONS
Circulation Services
- Greeting people as they enter the library
- Checking library and resource room books in and out
- Staffing the circulation desk
- Helping students, parents and teachers find books according to requested level, genres or topics.
- Running reports, as needed (e.g., overdue lists, hold notices
Library Environment
- Helping to maintain an organized, welcoming library environment
- Reshelving and arranging books to keep the library organized and attractive
- Reading shelves (ensuring books are in the correct order) and participating in inventories when directed by the librarian
- Helping the librarian create displays
- Manages student behavior in a calm and respectful way, positively enforcing library behavior expectations
Book Processing and Maintenance
- Assisting with deletion from the catalog of discarded and lost books, at the direction of the teacher librarian
- Processing new books and deselected books, at the direction of the teacher librarian
- Checking the condition of books, repairing when necessary
- Checking for discolored labels and plastic book covers, updating when faded or damaged,
- Cleaning book covers, as needed
- Managing and sorting donations
- Adding charges for lost or damaged books in the accounting system
- Providing input on new books to consider, or titles in need of replacement
Resource Room
- Managing resource room collection (work with ES literacy coach to organize books, make sure collections are in the right place, update labels and records when necessary)
- Reorganizing and maintaining the teacher tools in the resource room, as needed (e.g., paper cutter, die‑cut machine)
- Creating reports of missing Resource Room books and communicating with teachers
- Laminating materials in accordance with the set procedures and maintaining laminator resources.
- Communicating and coordinating with the relevant people regarding any issues with the laminator.
Other Duties
- Supervising library recesses every day, including setting up various activities students can do together and interacting with students
- Helping to prepare and set up lesson materials, if asked
- Occasionally covering for staff in the Upper School Library, if needed
- Assisting with logistics and communications regarding special events, if asked
- Maintaining current knowledge of and adhering to school and library policies and procedures
- Attending some Wednesday after‑school training sessions (e.g., Child Protection Training, Adult SEL meetings)

EVALUATION
This position is evaluated by the Lower School Teacher Librarian.
WORK HOURS / DATES
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
