Lead / Staff Data Scientist

We’re looking for an experienced Lead/Staff Data Scientist to build predictive models and recommender systems using machine learning and statistical techniques to drive personalized marketing and customer experience. This role requires designing, developing, and delivering statistical models and ML algorithms for targeting and digital optimization on large-scale data in a cloud environment. You will prototype, test, and evaluate algorithm performance, ensure ethical use of data, and adhere to Salesforce’s Trust values in all models and deployments.

Responsibilities

• As part of the Customer Targeting team within the Marketing Data Science organization, develop machine learning algorithms and statistical models to drive effective marketing and personalized customer experience (e.g., propensity models, uplift models, next-best recommender systems, customer lifetime value).
• Own the full lifecycle of model development from ideation and data exploration to design, validation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and in-production tuning.
• Collaborate with data engineers to develop modeling datasets and pipelines; deploy models in production with monitoring and ongoing optimization.
• Build cross-functional relationships with key partners and coordinate with working teams across the company.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and present data science solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Continuously learn and stay informed on innovation across SaaS, AdTech, paid media, data science, and analytics communities.
• Assume leadership responsibilities and drive end-to-end data science solutions beyond model development, including project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and roadmapping for future enhancements.
• Work independently to manage stakeholder expectations and explore additional use cases to maximize ROI from predictive models.

Required Skills

• Master’s or Ph.D. in statistics, economics, computer science, industrial engineering and operations research, applied math, or another quantitative field.
• 8+ years of experience with advanced statistical and ML techniques (e.g., clustering, linear/logistic regression, PCA, GBM, SVM, reinforcement learning, neural networks such as ANN/RNN/CNN, deep learning models like Wide & Deep); proven applications to marketing and business problems on large-scale data.
• 8+ years of proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, PySpark, Java).
• Expert-level SQL with strong data exploration and manipulation skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP and AWS) for model development and deployment is preferred.
• Experience developing production-ready feature engineering scripts for model scoring deployment.
• Experience transforming semi-structured and unstructured data into features for model development.
• Experience creating model monitoring and retraining frameworks for in-production performance.
• Strong quantitative reasoning and ability to provide data-driven business insights and recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work with peers and leaders across data science, marketing, and engineering.
• Excellent presentation skills; ability to articulate data science solutions to a wide audience to drive model adoption.
• Creative problem-solver who simplifies problems to their core elements.
• Experience with endpoints, Lambda functions, and API gateways is a plus.
• B2B customer data experience is a big plus. Advanced Salesforce product knowledge is also a plus.
