A leading healthcare company is seeking a seasoned professional for the role of Latin America Head of Commercial Operations. This leadership role involves strengthening commercial capabilities and overseeing ongoing operations in the region. The ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience in commercial roles within the pharmaceutical sector and expertise in managing teams effectively to align with strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional projects and driving initiatives that support the company’s regional priorities. This position is based in Veracruz, Mexico.

Formación

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
  • Strong understanding of commercial concepts impacting business performance.
  • Experienced in building and leading high-performing teams.

To help deliver on our vision, we are currently recruiting for the Latin America Head of Commercial Operations, Strategy and Business Practices Position Description This role is a key leadership position, accountable to identify, prioritize and lead key strategic and operational initiatives to support the LATAM region, including ensuring strengthening commercial capabilities.

The role also leads the on-going commercial operations and business practices for the region, serving as the right hand of the Regional President and overseeing a team of direct reports working closely with local country management teams to understand their strategic objectives and have the knowledge, network, tools and commercial capabilities to deliver on regional priorities.

Responsibilities
  • LATAM Strategy & Culture
    • Support and execute on strategies that continuously build and support our region's culture
    • Leadership guidance and support of key organizational cultural elements such as Diversity Equity & Inclusion and Ways of Working

  • Commercial Capabilities
    • Lead team of direct reports to strengthen and support commercial operations and capabilities for the markets including: L3, Key Account Management, Agile Transformation, Marketing of the Future, Digital Engagement, Next Best / One Merck Customer Experience, Data, Insights and Analytics, Sales Force of the Future and Learning Reimagined
  • Business Practices
    • Partner with legal, compliance and country business practice managers to ensure robust practices and controls and support markets with MCAAS audits, remediation plans, and global standards implementation
    • Lead quarterly compliance committees and prep for quarterly reviews at the EMLT level
    • Implement business practices steward workshops with country teams
  • Regional Operations / Chief of Staff
    • Define, track and facilitate integrated priority setting and quarterly business reviews- Lead / coordinate market visits, stakeholder engagements and key leadership meetings including agenda planning, meeting coordination, and documentation of actions plans with follow through
    • Support key enterprise & departmental operations such as financial forecasts, quarterly compliance committee, regional town halls, etc.
    • Oversee large and often cross-functional organization wide projects or initiatives in support of strategic priorities
    • Support monthly inventory enterprise operations process and help resolve supply issues across the region
    • Work closely with communications to ensure that messages reflect the current regional and corporate strategy and are appropriate for the given audience.
  • Represent President of LATAM at necessary forums as delegate on an ad‑hoc basis
    Identify external benchmarks to leverage our strategy, structure and action plans
  • Country Reviews / Visits: Coordinate and participate in Country Reviews / visits with the LT. Act in an advisory capacity on topics including but not limited to stakeholder management, communications tact and approach, and other strategic and tactical matters.
  • Profit Planning / Forecasts: Aligning countries and finance in the regional profit planning process, working closely with finance leads
  • LATAM Integrated Leadership Meetings: Ensure optimization of meetings and alignment of topics to key priorities.
  • Ensure LT sponsored presentations are aligned with strategic direction of the meetings.
  • Project Management: Proactively identify and execute projects of strategic importance to the Region, oversee management & coordination of key initiatives / efforts which are often cross divisional / cross functional.
  • Being the communicator / connector / catalyst for various cross divisional projects e.g., Policy / GMAX / CORE / MRL and company initiatives
  • Manage prep & content for LatAm topics at Emerging Markets Leadership Team (EMLT), Human Health Leadership Team (HHLT), etc.
Position Qualifications
  • Education
    • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree

    • You should have a strong understanding of commercial concepts and how these impact business performances.
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial experience in marketing, sales, market access & pricing, marketing support or related experiences in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
    • Recent People manager with experience on building and leading a high‑performing team.
    • Understanding of healthcare trends and reimbursement and policy issues and their potential impact upon our Company’s business opportunities.
    • Strong business acumen and ability to drive initiative forward.
    • Strong collaboration skills, both within commercial teams and with cross‑functional partners.
