An international NGO is seeking an Operations Director to lead and enhance operations during a critical growth phase. The role involves managing organizational functions, overseeing staff, and implementing systems for improved efficiency. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in operations management, particularly within international NGOs, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. A Bachelor's degree is required. This position is based in Xico, Veracruz, Mexico.

About this role

Over the past eight years, the Laudato Si' Movement's secretariat has grown from a small team of 4 to a dynamic organization with over 70 staff across continents, making a big impact by motivating the global Catholic community to protect our common home.

We are seeking a brilliant and friendly Operations Director who can continue to develop and take to the next level all aspects of our operations during this critical time of LSM's growth.

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Manage organizational and administrative functions across the organization.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources.
  • Ensures that organizational decisions and project plans ... are in line with LSM's strategy, goals, and values, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Strategy, Planning, and Special Projects.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
  • Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of LSM's operations team.
  • Embodies and projects LSM's culture and values to staff and the wider movement.
  • Works with the Internal Affairs Committee of the Board on all internal matters outside of finance.
Operations Management
  • Manages the People Operations Manager, Administrative Assistant, and other staff as needed.
  • Oversees and manages contracts and MoUs.
  • Proactively manages legal matters in consultation with attorneys, board, and other organizational leadership, as relevant.
  • Manages the development and needs of LSM's current and future legal entities.
  • Maintains liability and other relevant insurance, including research, cost comparison, and broker relations.
  • Appropriately reports to relevant government agencies wherever legal entities exist (as the city, state, and federal agencies in the US).
  • Implements and monitors sustainability measures across LSM's operations to ensure the organization has a mínimal ecological footprint, in collaboration with the Special Projects team.
  • Oversees the management of internal digital platforms such as Slack, Asana, and Google Workplace.
  • Proactively recommends and implements new changes to optimize and streamline team operations.
  • Oversees the coordination of regular team meetings such as weekly and monthly meetings, and annual team retreat.
  • Oversees the process of incoming ground mail, phone, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management.
Organizational Development
  • In collaboration with senior leadership, support the annual and multi-year strategic planning processes and the development of an operational plan.
  • Develop and coordinate an organizational development team (with the participation of senior staff from other teams).
Professional Qualifications
  • At least 8 years' experience with operations management, international human resources practices, and systems development experience, particularly in international NGOs.
  • Aptitude nd experience with all operational aspects of non-profit planning, management, and compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong intercultural and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • An understanding of grassroots, national, and international nonprofit programming and administration, including fundraising, programmatic campaigning, intercultural sensitivity.
  • Adept at the use of Google Workplace and relevant software platforms including Zoom.
