Director of Engineering - Shared Applications

Description

POSITION TITLE: Director of Engineering – Shared Applications

ABOUT THE ROLE
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead multiple development teams responsible for building and maintaining mission‑critical Financial Applications, including payments, billing, forecasting, financial workflows, and compliance‑related functionality.

In this role, you will focus on delivery excellence, engineering execution, team leadership, and operational maturity. You will partner closely with the Director of Architecture, Product Owner(s), Security, Compliance, and other cross‑functional leaders to ensure that financial applications are secure, scalable, and aligned with our enterprise architectural standards.

The ideal candidate is a modern engineering leader with experience enabling teams through AI‑assisted coding, secure‑by‑design development practices, cloud‑native delivery, and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, mentor, and grow engineering managers and senior engineers across multiple teams building financial applications.
  • Drive consistent execution of development, testing, deployment, and support activities across teams.
  • Establish modern engineering best practices and foster a culture of continuous learning, automation, and quality.
  • Promote and operationalize the use of AI‑assisted coding tools, intelligent QA/test automation, and development accelerators to improve productivity and reduce defects.
  • Ensure all financial applications align with enterprise architectural standards, patterns, and reference implementations
  • Partner with Product Owners to translate product requirements into technical execution plans
  • Guide engineering teams in the implementation of scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions
  • Ensure development practices follow secure‑by‑design principles, including threat modeling, dependency scanning, secure code reviews, and compliance readiness.
  • Collaborate closely with InfoSec, Compliance, and Risk teams to maintain auditability, data integrity, and secure handling of financial information.
  • Drive continuous improvement in application reliability, incident response, and operational resilience.
Minimum QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years leading engineering teams.
  • Proven experience delivering large‑scale applications.
  • Strong background in modern backend languages (Python, Java, Go, etc.), cloud‑native platforms, micro services and distributed systems.
  • Direct experience enabling teams with AI‑assisted development tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex programs in collaboration with architecture and product leadership.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with financial systems such as payment gateways, procurement, billing/invoicing, ledger systems, or accounting platforms.
  • Familiarity with domain‑driven design, API governance, and integration patterns.
  • Experience building automation or AI/ML‑enabled developer productivity tools.
  • Proven ability to develop high‑performing teams, recruit top engineering talent, and scale engineering organizations.

This role is based in Guadalajara, Mexico and the base pay range for this role is $1,000,000 – $1,950,000 annually ($481 – $938 MXN per hour). Actual amounts will vary depending on education, skills, experience, and geographic location.
