Position: Associate FPGA Engineer (Wireless Applications)
The successful candidate will contribute to designing and optimizing FPGA solutions integrated into cutting-edge wireless technologies, playing a key role in advancing our FPGA capabilities for wireless cellular systems. The position is based in Bologna, Italy, in the Castel San Pietro Terme area.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the full FPGA development cycle: specification, micro-architecture, design, verification, optimization, and testing for wireless communication systems on JMA hardware platforms.
- Implement FPGA designs focusing on performance and resource efficiency.
- Develop verification frameworks to ensure FPGA RTL code reliability and functionality.
- Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to integrate FPGA designs into larger wireless systems.
- Execute comprehensive testing to validate FPGA performance and functionality.
- Support development of FPGA modules for protocols such as LTE, 5G, and ORAN fronthaul.
- Work with the firmware team to integrate FPGA into hardware products.
- Maintain detailed and version-controlled documentation of FPGA designs.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging wireless technologies.
- Explore new tools, methodologies, and techniques to improve FPGA development processes.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of FPGA design experience, particularly in wireless applications.
- Proficiency in RTL design techniques using Verilog/SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with FPGA design tools like Vivado, Quartus, and simulation tools.
- Understanding of FPGA synthesis, placement, routing, and timing optimization.
- Familiarity with FPGA interfaces such as 10/25GbE, ADC/DAC, UART, SPI, I2C, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe.
- Ability to develop module-level and top-level FPGA testbenches with test cases for coverage.
- Lab troubleshooting skills and experience with FPGA debugging tools like Chipscope or SignalTap.
- Knowledge of Python scripting; familiarity with Bitbucket and Jira workflows is a plus.
- Some understanding of wireless protocols (LTE, 5G) and FPGA implementation.
- Basic knowledge of RF systems and signal processing in wireless communication.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and optimization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts.
- English language skills are advantageous.
