We are looking for a Mechanical Project Designer to join our Melt Shops Team, with a strong passion for technology and motivation to work within a multicultural and challenging environment. You will work in an international environment characterized by high technology complexity.
Responsibilities
- Design in 2D and 3D format, considering customer requirements, timing targets, quality and reliability targets, cost optimization and design for manufacturability in all new equipment design.
- Prepare layouts showing to Client how and where the equipment will be installed in their plant.
- Develop all mechanical aspects of a project; prepare and/or verify basic and detail engineering, both internal and external, according to the level of responsibility.
- Estimate weights for structures/equipment during basic engineering phases to better fit and optimize with technical design requirements. Develop bills of materials.
- Perform basic/detail engineering elaboration based on input data received from Project Engineer, Mechanical Dept. Manager, Process Engineer, R&D dept., Proposal dept.
- Manage engineering external studio, ensuring timing and schedule proper progress.
- Design equipment in compliance with all applicable regulations; define the project standard specification in cooperation with the Project Engineer and contract targets.
- Understand, develop, and review design of civil works for machine installation.
- Perform on‑site inspections from site surveys up to the ascertaining of the document "as built".
- Convert 2D drawings into 3D models and create drawings from 3D models with verification analysis (e.g., FEM).
- Have detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes in the mechanical industry to choose the most appropriate manufacturing procedure.
- Participate in inspections and meetings at suppliers/sites/production/customer/manufacturing premises.
- Generate scope of work specifications that define the work included, excluded and battery limits along with technical requirements for each equipment package or component.
- Manage and supervise the execution of outsourced tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Mechanical Design or Secondary School Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience.
- Experience in mechanical design is a must.
- Knowledge of Autodesk software such as AutoCAD and Inventor is required.
- Knowledge of main technological transformation processes for production of semi‑finished products (CNC milling, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, welding, etc.).
- Steel industry knowledge and experience (at least 3 years) is a plus.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Pro.File software is a plus.
- Good knowledge of CAD and FEM software such as Ansys, Nastran, Recap, Inventor, AutoCAD, Navisworks, preferably.
- Experience with 3D/2D CAD and technical calculation methods.
- Effective knowledge of English language.
- Knowledge of advanced PC tools (MS Excel, MS Word, etc.).
- Willingness to travel.
- Collaborative approach, team working and problem solving skills, flexibility, critical thinking and "Can do" attitude.
- Good coordination and planning skills.
