Requirements

• Education: A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field. A higher degree or specialized training in marine engineering is an added advantage.
• Professional Certification: Valid certifications and licenses such as Chief Engineer License or Class I Engineer Certificate of Competency.
• Experience: Experience in marine engineering, vessel maintenance, and ship operations is essential.
• Strong Technical Knowledge: In‑depth knowledge of marine engineering principles, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and vessel machinery. Familiarity with various ship types and the specific technical requirements for different ships.
• Project Management Skills: Overseeing maintenance and repair projects, dry docking, and vessel inspections. Ability to plan, budget, and coordinate these activities effectively.
• Knowledge of Regulations and Standards: Comprehensive understanding of maritime regulations, classification society rules, and industry standards. Up‑to‑date with evolving regulations related to safety, environmental compliance, and maintenance requirements.
• Analytical and Problem‑Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to diagnose technical issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose effective solutions. Proactive in identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures.
• Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with shipboard personnel, shore‑based teams, contractors, and suppliers. Ability to convey technical information clearly to build strong working relationships.
• Adaptability and Availability: Willingness to travel frequently to vessels or shipyards, often at short notice. Flexible schedule to work irregular hours to address emergencies and urgent maintenance needs.
