Job description

The Vascular Assessment Unit at Portsmouth is excited to expand our current team with the appointment of a Band 7 Vascular Scientist (part-time 0.7 WTE 26.25 hours per week). The successful candidate will ideally have full AVS accreditation with the College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science, however if you are an experienced candidate working towards this qualification or are nearing completion of the STP training scheme, we would welcome your application (Annex 21 arrangement dependent on experience until SVT Accreditation achieved with our full support to enable this).

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to carry out and independently report the full range of investigations, including carotid artery Duplex, upper and lower limb arterial and venous Duplex, EVAR & bypass graft surveillance, ABPI, pre‑operative marking, and pre‑ and post‑fistula assessments. Protected non‑clinical time is allocated for teaching, research, service improvement, audit and professional development.

About us

Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local populations. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.

Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

Job responsibilities

Teamwork and development is at our heart, supporting each other to manage workloads, and helping us provide excellent levels of care to each of our patients. Our current team comprises 3 Accredited Vascular Scientists and 1 Trainee Vascular Scientist in their final year of training and we are supported by administrators and healthcare assistants. We work collaboratively with vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, specialist nurses and research teams. Our purpose built unit has 3 large clinical rooms, equipped with the latest technology and equipment.
