Teaching Assistant (Level 2) - Community and ESOL

Role: Teaching Assistant (Level 2) – Community and ESOL
Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus
Salary/Benefits: £25,585 – £30,915 per annum (Pro‑Rate) based on experience and qualifications; people’s pension, retail and discounts, professional and personal development opportunities, and access to college courses
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About the role
  • Student Support & Inclusion: Assist with the educational, personal and social needs of students, including those with SEND, promoting inclusive participation and positive behaviour.
  • Learning Resource Preparation & Delivery: Prepare teaching materials, support curriculum activities and provide class cover during tutor absence, contributing to a high‑quality learning experience.
  • Administrative & Operational Support: Manage departmental admin tasks such as data entry, filing and document preparation while maintaining accurate student records and supporting communication.
  • Collaboration & Professional Conduct: Work closely with teaching and support staff, attend meetings, maintain confidentiality and provide cross‑departmental cover when needed.
  • Compliance & Development: Uphold safeguarding, EDI and health and safety standards; actively engage in training and development to enhance role effectiveness.
About you
  • Qualifications & Technical Skills: Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning and Level 2 English and Maths; proficient in Microsoft Office and ICT tools.
  • Educational Support Experience: Experience supporting students in educational settings with strong skills in behaviour management, record keeping and administrative tasks.>
  • Professional Attributes: Empathetic, discreet, proactive and detail‑oriented; demonstrates resilience, flexibility and a commitment to continuous development and teamwork.
  • Safeguarding & Inclusion Awareness: Understands safeguarding practices, promotes inclusion and maintains confidentiality while supporting both educational and administrative functions.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicates effectively across formats, builds positive relationships with students and staff and contributes to a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
