Trainee Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a high-profile, accessible, and responsive Trainee Advanced Practitioner (tAP) to take on clinical responsibility for the delivery of advanced clinical practice within the acute paediatric services both on site, virtually via the paediatric virtual ward and within the acute paediatric community setting.

You will undertake training as an advanced practitioner (AP) within your designated specialty/division. During this period, you will cultivate advanced clinical practice expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care and management of patients, who may present with highly complex and/or chronic presentations. Development will be supported by clinical supervisors who will oversee and assess their competence to ensure they demonstrate the required skills, and level of knowledge necessary for independent practice.You will be supported to develop as an autonomous practitioner within your sphere of professional competence and agreed scope of practice and collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team. You will meet the criteria for advanced clinical practice as set out in the QEH Advanced and Consultant Level Practice (non-medical) competence, capability, and assurance framework.

Main duties of the job

o Provide Senior level clinical, educational, and professional leadership, supporting staff across the Trust care for paediatric patients.o Ensure evidence-based care is delivered to patients, and be involved in audit of practice, research, teaching, and service improvement.o Work in accordance with the Multi-Professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England (HEE 2017)o Work in accordance with The Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Advanced and Consultant Level Practice (non-medical) competence, capability, and assurance framework.o Work in line with standards expected for Advanced Practice in line with professional registration regulations, and Trust policies/procedures.o Demonstrate and promote the Trust's values and behaviours to the highest standard.o Draw on expertise on the four pillars of advanced practice to lead and influence improvements to standards of care.

Person Specification
Qualifications/training and professional development
  • Professional Registration with either NMC, GPhC or HCPC
  • Possession of 1st degree in a clinical field e.g. Nursing, Physiotherapy at a minimum 2:2 classification, or evidence of a level 6/7 module achieved
  • Evidence that the candidate has met the entrance criteria for the AP programme
  • Ability to study towards an NHSE recognised advanced practice qualification at level 7, including advanced clinical assessment and non-medical prescribing
  • Working towards an MSc in advanced practice
  • Registered Independent Non-Medical Prescribing if appropriate to registered profession and scope of practice
Experience
  • Post registration experience of working as a registered practitioner, proof of working as registrant within paediatrics, including working at band 6 level
  • Experience of successfully resolving complex problems and ensuring effective interventions are actioned in a timely manner
  • Experience of effectively dealing with clinical issues within defined procedures and guidelines
  • Evidence of experience/involvement in service improvement, audit, research, and quality issues
  • Experience of involvement in change management
Skills, abilities and knowledge
  • Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in patient management
  • Evidence of teaching/presenting information to individuals and groups as required using appropriate resources
  • Highly developed effective communication, influencing and negotiating skills both written and verbal
  • Advanced Clinical skills i.e. ECG, CXR interpretation, cannulation/venepuncture
