Who are we looking for?
We are planning major investments in rail transport over the next 15 years, including projects like HS2, TransPennine Route Upgrade, and infrastructure enhancements in Manchester. These require collaboration to develop optimal timetable changes.
We seek someone skilled in building relationships with stakeholders, leveraging knowledge of rail network capacity, and planning for infrastructure changes to meet customer needs.
The candidate should influence industry leaders, translate strategic problems into practical analytical solutions, and foster engagement at all levels.
The ideal candidate blends curiosity for solving complex problems with leadership to maintain stakeholder consensus, and an inclusive approach to reflect diverse perspectives.
About the role (External)
About the team…
The Advanced Timetable Team (ATT) provides expert analysis of rail network capacity, collaborating with Capacity Planning and industry partners to inform decisions using standard and bespoke analytical tools.
The role involves leading timetable analysis integration for investment programs in Northern England and being part of the extended leadership within System Operator.
What does the average day look like?
Your work supports complex capacity decisions shaping the future rail network. You will collaborate across the organization and with external stakeholders like the Department for Transport, ORR, and train operators.
This includes influencing industry groups, prioritizing workloads, managing analysis projects, translating technical results for non-technical audiences, and managing risks.
You will use industry contacts to facilitate high-quality train plans and contribute to broader industry initiatives, supporting smarter working methods and early decision-making confidence. Flexibility to travel between Manchester and Milton Keynes offices and occasional overnight stays are required.
Qualifications include significant experience in timetable analysis, knowledge of train planning systems (TPS / ATTune / RailSys), stakeholder leadership, understanding of industry processes, and team leadership skills. A degree or equivalent experience in capacity planning and analysis is preferred.
