Salary: circa £53,000 DOE plus excellent benefits

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Your future role

The Train System Engineer will define and deliver the Driving System scope within the Train System architecture, ensuring operability, performance, and compliance with functional and safety requirements. This includes specifying system functions, managing requirements, and supporting verification and validation activities to demonstrate that the solution meets all applicable standards. The Train System Engineer will lead technical studies and integration tasks to achieve performance targets and deliver all associated technical outputs.

We’ll look to you for:
  • Ensure driving system performance and integration within the overall train architecture.
  • Develop and manage technical requirements derived from standards, certification, safety, platform, and customer specifications, and allocate these to relevant subsystems.
  • Define and validate operational and functional analyses for the driving system.
  • Guarantee consistency and compatibility of subsystem specifications impacting Driving scope.
  • Act as the technical interface for driving system topics, supporting the Project Manager and PrWM during revenue service.
  • Make architecture trade-offs between subsystems to achieve optimal train-level performance.
  • Resolve technical issues related to Driving scope, from investigation through to implementation and closure.
  • Define and execute verification strategies for driving system requirements in collaboration with engineering and validation teams.
  • Support train integration and tuning phases, including test specification for driving system functions.
  • Ensure adherence to baselines, KPIs, and on-time delivery of Driving deliverables.
  • Provide Return on Experience (RoE) to improve standard solutions and enhance quality, cost, and delivery performance.

  • Experience of technical team leadership.
  • Customer Focus/ Management skills.
  • Ability to switch seamlessly between problem-focused and solution-focused perspectives, and to engage constructively in challenging tasks and being challenged on approaches or decisions.
  • Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, and control functions into cohesive subsystem designs, ensuring seamless interaction and optimal performance across all components
  • Sense for coordination and team spirit.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English.

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career.

You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges and a long-term career free from boring daily routines
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues
  • Contribute to innovative projects
  • Utilise our dynamic, inclusive, and safety-focused working environment

  • Up to 52 weeks full maternity and adoption pay
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the opportunity to buy or sell holiday
  • A wide range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your lifestyle
