A leading healthcare provider in Leicester is offering a 12-month fixed term position for a Senior Plastic Surgery trainee. This fellowship emphasizes comprehensive training in microsurgery, focusing on breast reconstruction and lower limb procedures. The role includes extensive exposure to General Plastic Surgery and the opportunity to gain skills in head and neck reconstruction. Ideal for an individual post CCT or similar, this position is a significant step towards consultancy in plastic surgery. Flexible scheduling allows for tailored training alongside departmental needs.
The Leicester Microsurgical Fellowship is a post aimed at a Senior Plastic Surgery trainee. These do not carry SAC or college approval for training at present and would therefore suit a post CCT or equivalent individual. The post will be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, within the Plastic Surgery service.
This post is a ST6+ level Microsurgical Clinical Fellow within Plastic Surgery.
The role is offered on a 12 month, fixed term contract with a view for extension for the suitable candidate.
This fellowship offers comprehensive experience and training in all aspects of microsurgery. The microsurgical workload is largely for breast reconstruction, lower limb reconstruction and upper limb replants/revascularisation procedures. There is also opportunity to gain experience in head and neck reconstruction in conjunction with Maxillo-Facial and ENT surgical teams.
In addition to this, vast exposure to General Plastic Surgery including chest wall reconstruction, perineal reconstruction, abdominal wall reconstruction, complex skin oncology, hand surgery, paediatric plastics and burns will be provided.
Furthermore, the Leicester Plastic Surgery Department is the first (and at present only) unit in the UK to use the BHS Robotic Microscope for their microsurgical procedures.
The micro fellow is the most senior registrar role in the department and this post provides a step up to Consultancy. The fellow has protected time to attend all microsurgical cases and the rest of the timetable is flexible to accommodate the fellow needs in conjunction with the departmental needs. The post holder will gain training in microsurgical reconstruction – 3 days of the week. Other days the micro fellow will attend general plastic surgery clinics, lower limb/orthoplastics reconstructive clinics and joint breast reconstruction clinics. The micro fellow will also conduct ward rounds and coordinate planning of major reconstructive cases with other specialities.
