A local government authority in Dorchester seeks a Temporary Tree Technician to join their Tree Team. This full-time role offers the opportunity to maintain accurate tree records and assist with conservation efforts. Ideal candidates will have strong IT skills and a passion for the natural environment. If you're detail-oriented and ready to make a difference, apply now to contribute to the care of Dorset's green legacy while enjoying a supportive work environment.
Please note this is a nine month, fixed term contract. Dorset is home to some of the UK’s most treasured landscapes, including the Jurassic Coast and internationally protected heathlands. At Dorset Council, we’re proud to protect and enhance these environments for future generations. As a Temporary Tree Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting this mission. If you’re passionate about trees, detail-focused, and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Protect it. Shape it. Enjoy it. Be part of Dorset.
We’re looking for a dedicated individual to join our Tree Team at Dorset Council. This full‑time, temporary role offers the chance to work alongside a passionate group of Tree Officers and Technicians, all committed to protecting and enhancing Dorset’s green legacy. This is your opportunity to contribute to the care of our natural environment while developing your skills in a supportive and purpose‑driven setting.
You’ll support Dorset Council’s Tree Team by ensuring our tree records are accurate, up‑to‑date, and accessible. You’ll be the first point of contact for tree‑related enquiries, helping internal teams and the public navigate applications and conservation queries.
You’re a detail‑oriented, collaborative individual with strong IT skills and a passion for the natural environment. You’re confident using spreadsheets, databases, and mapping software, and you communicate clearly with a wide range of people. You will need to be able to follow precise instructions, pay attention to detail, and ensure that information is accurately recorded and monitored.
Whether working independently or as part of a team, you bring precision, purpose, and a shared commitment to conservation. You’ll also need to converse comfortably with customers and provide accurate advice in spoken English. Knowledge of Tree Preservation Orders and the process to undertake work to trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order would be an advantage.
You will be able to work in a team environment, follow procedures and be flexible and willing to learn.
Whatever stage of your career you’re at, clear communication and alignment with our values—Respect, Openness, Together, Accountability, and Curiosity—will set you up for success. Join us in shaping the future of Dorset, ensuring it remains a vibrant, green, and sustainable place to live and work. With beautiful beaches and countryside on your doorstep, a career with Dorset Council offers everything you need.

We welcome applications from everyone and are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer. If you declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role, we will offer you an interview. We also want our recruitment process to be accessible. If you need any reasonable adjustments, just let us know on your application.
This role is UK‑based, and we will need to confirm your Right to Work as part of the appointment process. We use generic job descriptions and person specifications, so the job title in any attachments may differ from the advert. If needed, we will provide additional details in a context statement.
If you’re passionate about making a difference, we’d love you to join us.
