People Services Advisor

We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced HR professional to join our People Services Team as an Advisor. This individual should be enthusiastic and pro‑active with a continuous improvement mind‑set.

This is an opportunity for a self‑motivated, well‑organised individual who wishes to develop their HR skills working in a fast‑paced environment. This role will work alongside a team of HR professionals to develop a responsive and high‑quality advisory service. Applicants should be able to demonstrate decision making skills and critical thinking abilities, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role will be expected to liaise with staff at all levels, senior managers and external organisations, as well as developing strong working relationship with trade union representatives within the Trust.

Main duties of the job
  • Providing a consistent, responsive, high quality employee relations advisory and support service to managers and staff within the Trust.
  • Overseeing and supporting a range of complex and sensitive employment matters in relation to sickness absence.
  • Develop and deliver training on HR policies, guidance and employment law for varied levels of managers.

Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience within an HR related field of study
  • Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Experience & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current and relevant employment law and NHS / Trust policies and procedures
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, databases, HR information systems and other electronic information systems to inform decision making.
  • Previous experience of managing a caseload
  • A minimum of 6 months previous experience working at Advisor level
  • Previous HR experience within the NHS
Skills and Ability
  • Provide advice on the interpretation of HR policies & procedures.
  • Analyse complex HR issues across a range of options to decide on appropriate course of action in relation to wellbeing, sickness counselling, ill‑health hearings and other HR related matters.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Communicates complex and sensitive information on a wide range of HR issues e.g. health and sickness absence, redeployment and reasonable adjustments in a range of settings i.e. informal and formal meetings with staff/staff representatives, hearings, etc
  • Communicates with a broad range of people both internally and externally to the Trust
