Job description
Senior Staff Nurse

Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 30 December 2025

We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity for a number of Senior Nurses to join the Rehabilitation Medicine department based at the Haywood Hospital in Burslem, Stoke on Trent.

We are looking for someone who is passionate and dedicated to providing person‑centred specialised rehabilitation to adults with acquired neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and complex disabilities, primarily acquired brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and complex disabling neurological conditions.

We work with a dedicated and highly skilled multidisciplinary team including senior clinical neuropsychologists, specialist nurses and advanced therapists. The ward is equipped to manage patients with tracheostomy and to provide acute interventions such as intravenous fluids and antibiotics.

The service covers Staffordshire, Shropshire, parts of Cheshire and major trauma patients in North Wales. We work closely with the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) especially on stroke and major trauma services.

Main duties of the job

As a senior nurse, you will be responsible for the assessment, coordination and implementation of rehabilitation interventions for patients with complex specialised needs, and will have delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical areas, including assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for our patients.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Provide day‑to‑day supervision and management of safe practice, supporting and deputising for the Ward Manager or deputy in their absence.
  • Participate in the Hospital Coordinator roster to support all inpatient wards during out of hours.
  • Promote the workplace as a learning environment, manage resource issues affecting learning and support all learners as mentor, assessor or role model.
  • Work with others to improve service delivery, propose changes to practice and take further action to implement agreed changes.
  • Support and implement the integration of clinical governance into all aspects of patient care delivery.
About us

Come and work with us at our award‑winning NHS Trust, leading the way for trying new and better ways of working to help improve life for our local communities.

We have around 9,000 staff who provide physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities, and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke‑on‑Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We also run regional and national services, including help for new parents (perinatal care), eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health, and support for people in prison with mental health, drug or alcohol problems.

We offer great career development for both clinical and non‑clinical roles, with ongoing training and support to help you learn and grow.

We are ‘United in our Uniqueness’ and committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves, no matter their background or identity. We want our staff to feel supported and valued, and we aim to build a team that reflects the communities we serve. Together, we can make sure every voice is heard and every difference is respected.

Please note, we may be required to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications.

Please be aware that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in completing application forms will be monitored to ensure fairness and transparency. If you have used AI you must state this in your application.
