Registered Nurse

Our inpatient care and management is overseen by a matron, along with a team of registered nurses, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists' rehabilitation assistants, care management staff, a pharmacist and our visiting medical officers.

Community hospitals provide a range of comprehensive healthcare services for patients over the age of 18 and in some sites also outpatient services. The units predominantly provide rehabilitation and end of life support for palliative patients and their families Patients are referred to the ward either from the acute setting to allow a further period of rehabilitation and assessment or directly from home via their GP or local community nursing teams

Main duties of the job

This is a busy role so you will be working together within your team to balance different tasks that often change.

Working as part of a team and on your own, you will draw from your knowledge, skills and experience, to make informed decisions and use your initiative. You will work independently within the organisational and professional guidelines and established professional

You will be required to maintain clear and accurate records of all advice provided to families, observations and action taken.

We have several policies and procedures in place to support you in keeping both yourself and our patients safe. You will also be asked to comment on and be responsive to any proposals for change and participate in audits and surveys. We encourage reflection and critical learning though supervision and your annual appraisal.

You will work as an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the care, you give to patients within your own limits of competency and confidence. You will also be required to assess the competency of others.

Person Specification
Qualifications, training and experience
  • You will have a Level 6 Degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience plus a diploma in nursing
  • You'll need to have recent experience of healthcare gained through education, work experience or previous employment. This role is ideal for a newly qualified graduate nurse.
  • You will be a registered health care professional with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Knowledge and skills
  • You'll need have sound communication skills in order to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • You will need to be able to be able to use IT systems and databases.
  • Having an awareness of developments within the NHS would be an advantage.
  • You will have knowledge of up-to-date clinical practice by using up- to- date skills and adhering to evidence-based procedures and clinical effectiveness frameworks. You will fully understand the role and remit of a health care worker.
  • You will have the ability to focus on the details and spot any potential problems.
Working environment
  • oA full, valid UK driving licence, or a full, valid driving licence issued by an EU country (not exchanged from a non-EU country licence, and the ability to travel independently are essential for this role.
