Offer Description

About us:

We have an exciting opportunity for an early to mid-career academic for appointment as a Lecturer in Clinical Trials Statistics and Healthcare Technology.

The post is based in the Department of Biostatistics and Health Informatics in the School of Mental Health and Psychological Sciences at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. The Department has been a major force in the development of quantitative methodology as applied to mental health research. We have significant national and international collaborations, and our research has growing impact into all areas of medicine particularly through expertise in trials and software development. The current Head of Department is Professor Richard Dobson.

The appointee will work with the King’s Clinical Trials Unit (KCTU), the UKCRC registered CTU within King’s College London and Partner Trusts in King’s Health Partners. KCTU supports trials in all disease areas with specialist strength in mental health, neuroscience, rheumatology, transplantation and ophthalmology. The KCTU Academic Director is Professor Richard Emsley.

About the role:

This position provides an exciting opportunity for an early to mid-career academic to contribute to the development and application of innovative statistical methods in clinical trials of digital, diagnostic, and medical device technologies, alongside drug and behavioural interventions.

You will join a thriving interdisciplinary research environment within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, and contribute to the delivery and methodological development of high-quality clinical trials across King’s Health Partners. You will support the design, analysis, andreporting of trials of healthcare technologies and contribute to a programme of methodological research aligned with KCTU priorities.

You will also contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision in clinical trials and biostatistics, and support the broader aims of capacity building in clinical trials methodology at King’s.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/01/2030.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • PhD or equivalent in medical statistics, clinical trials methodology, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience of statistical involvement in the design and analysis of clinical trials.
  • Evidence of research outputs relevant to trial methodology and/or the evaluation of healthcare technologies.
  • Ability to contribute to grant applications and collaborative research proposals.
  • Familiarity with design considerations specific to digital, diagnostic, or device interventions.
  • Experience in teaching or training in applied statistics or clinical trials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of methodological and regulatory frameworks for evaluating healthcare technologies.
  • Experience working in or in collaboration with a Clinical Trials Unit or clinical research setting
  • Interest in or experience with health data science, trial simulations, or decentralised trial approaches
  • Engagement with national or international methodological or regulatory networks (e.g. NIHR, UKCRC, MHRA, NICE).
