Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for a Specialist Grade level doctor to join our friendly and forward‑thinking Clinical Neurosciences team at Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role delivers outpatient and inpatient neurology care, with a focus on general neurology and an opportunity to develop a specialist interest, particularly in Multiple Sclerosis.

Main duties
  • Provide daily in‑reach ward referral service Monday to Friday and cover colleagues during their absence.
  • Maintain responsibility for patient care and ensure safe handovers.
  • Supervise nurse specialists in collaboration with other consultants.
  • Offer prompt consultations to other specialities as needed.
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing and management teams to enhance clinical leadership and patient experiences.
  • Engage in education, research, audit and clinical governance activities with a focus on a multi‑disciplinary approach.
  • Support recruitment, appraisal and mentoring within the team.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, with changes negotiated and reflected in the job plan.
  • Provide high‑quality clinical assessment, diagnosis and management for patients with a broad range of neurological conditions.
  • Deliver outpatient general neurology clinics and participate in specialist clinics as required.
  • Support the Multiple Sclerosis service, including clinical input and collaboration with the MS Nurse Team.
  • Participate in supervision, teaching and support of junior doctors, registrars, medical students and non‑medical staff.
  • Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement and governance activities to support high standards of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust policies and information governance standards.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives aimed at improving patient experience, efficiency and clinical outcomes.
  • Participate in continuing professional development, appraisal and any additional duties reasonably required by the service.
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS (or equivalent) and full GMC registration with licence to practice.
Desirable
  • Higher Postgraduate qualification.
Experience

  • Broad and thorough training and experience in Neurology.
Desirable
  • Evidence of a complementary subspecialty interest (e.g. MS, movement disorders, headache, epilepsy).
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary staff.
