Band 5 Pharmacy Technician – Patient Services

A vacancy has arisen for experienced technicians to apply for this post which will be based at King George Hospital in Goodmayes.

Duties will include:

• Participation in a ward‑based pharmacy service, assisting the clinical pharmacist by undertaking clinical duties e.g., PODS, drug history taking, medicines reconciliation, discharge counselling etc in line with the recent NPSA guidance.
• To help develop, monitor and audit the clinical technician input on wards.
• To carry out regular, planned Controlled Drug checks on the wards according to guidelines and agreed procedures.
• To work as an Accredited Checking Technician in the dispensary, supervising technicians and assistants in the absence of the senior dispensary staff.

You must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You must be able to demonstrate good organisational and problem‑solving skills and you must also have accreditation for dispensary checking and ward‑based, clinical activities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the Chief Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Services in the provision of clinical technical services to wards and departments. They will assist in the provision of a TTA/eDS transcribing service to designated wards as well as provide medicines reconciliation support to the clinical pharmacy team. They will assist in the updating of procedures; partake in audits and systems for the monitoring, organisation and supply of medicines during the patients admission and discharge.

Education / Qualifications

• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a UK Pharmacy Technician
• Level 3 QCF Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (NVQ) or equivalent

Experience / Knowledge

• Experience of being in a Medicines Management role e.g., assessment of patient’s own medicines, drug history taking and medicines reconciliation
• Experience of liaising and interacting with nursing and medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
