Role & Responsibilities

As Director of People, you’ll be the architect and champion of our people strategy. This is a highly impactful, cross-functional role focused on building the infrastructure, policies, and culture that enable our team to thrive as we scale.

You’ll work closely with the CEO and leadership team to ensure Beam is a place where values-aligned talent is attracted, empowered, and retained by:

  • Developing and executing Beam’s holistic people strategy, aligned with company goals, values, and growth stage
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team on organizational design, talent planning, and change management
  • Owning employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding, ensuring every team member feels connected, valued, and supported
  • Designing and run performance management, feedback, and career development systems that help individuals grow and the organization scale effectively
  • Coaching managers to become great leaders, and support learning & development initiatives across all levels
  • Overseeing compensation, benefits, and HR compliance; partner with Finance on headcount planning and budgeting
  • Selecting and managing people systems (e.g., HRIS, payroll, performance tools) to support efficiency and scalability
About You

You're a builder and a strategist - equally comfortable setting the vision for the people function and rolling up your sleeves to make it happen. You’re deeply invested in people and culture, excited by the opportunity to shape the experience of every team member, and energized by working in a fast-moving, purpose-driven environment.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 6+ years of experience in People/HR roles, with 3+ years in a leadership or strategic HRBP capacity at a fast-growing startup or mission-driven organization
  • A proven track record building or scaling people functions across recruiting, performance, engagement, and culture
  • Experience designing equitable compensation, leveling frameworks, and growth pathways
  • Strong knowledge of HR compliance, labor laws, and best practices for remote or hybrid teams
  • Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal - and a high EQ
  • A passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and building cultures where everyone can thrive
  • Strong project management skills and a bias toward action
  • A thoughtful, human-first approach - you believe the best teams are built on trust, clarity, and compassion
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

In addition to cash compensation, stock, healthcare, and remote work, Beam will also offer the following perks, as further set forth in the applicable policies:

  • Unlimited PTO: All Beam team members are entitled to unlimited paid time off, with a requirement to take a minimum of two weeks per year.
  • Health and wellness: Your choice of Medical, Dental, and Vision Aetna plans, including some that are fully covered plus a $100 monthly wellness stipend to be used at your discretion (e.g., gym memberships, yoga, meditation apps, etc.)
  • Parental leave: All parents are entitled to paid leave per Beam’s parental leave policy. Upon your start date, this includes twelve weeks of fully paid leave after six months of full-time employment at Beam.
  • Professional development enrichment: $750 / year in professional development stipend for conferences, books, course enrollment, and more
  • Regular team events and volunteering, including virtual options
  • Regular on-sites: Travel and hotel covered for on-sites 1-2x per year for the entire Beam team to come together for team-building in NYC
  • Referral bonus: $1,000 referral bonuses for every new member of the growing Beam team that you send our way
  • Remote first with optional NYC HQ: This role may be conducted fully remotely, with the option to work from our gorgeous New York City HQ with sunlight, plants, drinks, snacks, and energy
REPORTING

You will initially report to Beam’s CEO.

Compensation

Your total compensation consists of four parts: base salary, performance based bonus at on-target earnings, partial 401k match, and stock options.

Total cash compensation for this role is $165,000 - $178,000 per year.
