The London Metal Exchange (LME) is the World Centre for the trading of industrial metals – The majority of all non-ferrous metal futures business is transacted on our platforms. In 2025, the LME continues to modernize its market structure and boost transparency, while also maintaining its unique features that serve the physical metal community.
In Q1 2025, the London Metal Exchange (LME) saw its average daily volumes (ADV) increase by 5.9% compared to Q1 2024, reaching 698,209 lots. This marks the second highest quarterly level in the last 11 years and the third highest monthly level in the last 10 years. Nickel, tin, and copper saw double-digit increases in trading volumes
Overall Purpose of Role
The Senior Digital Workplace Engineer role within Digital Workplace is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of LME Digital Workplace Infrastructure Engineering Services. This role will shape the Digital Workplace (DW) and End User Computing (EUC) technology standards, approach and best practices through 2025 and beyond across the LME Group estate for all users and Trading Ring participants.
The Senior Digital Workplace Engineer will help design, develop, manage and maintain the LME’s core DW and EUC IT infrastructure standards, specifically focused on Windows 11 operating systems for use with laptop hardware, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Azure and M365 Services as well as on premise hosted DW and EUC technologies such as application packaging and virtualisation, InTune/SCCM, Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop technologies and other EUC platforms such as those delivering Enterprise Mobility Management.
Knowledge of services such as Entra ID, Active Directory, SSO, idP, M365, Intune, Windows server infrastructure and PKI is essential with knowledge of SCCM, Citrix, Office, Azure Virtual Desktop, Linux and OpenShift Container Platform systems being highly desirable.
The successful candidate will have a DevSecOps mindset with automation and IAC being at the forefront of thinking whilst also having good Powershell scripting skills.
The role requires awareness of technologies such as Databases, Storage, Voice services including Dealer Board systems and VoIP, network infrastructure including services such as LAN, WAN, routers, switches and firewalls, and Unix/Linux, together with Enterprise Monitoring of all delivered services.
Standard delivery includes researching and defining ‘Best-of-breed’ solutions, patterns, templates and repeatable processes leading to industrialization of IT delivery for the LME. The position will also have responsibility for contributing to technical product roadmaps and will engage with vendors to maintain the currency of the LME estate.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly into the Digital Workplace Solutions Manager, the role contains the following responsibilities:
Specific to the Engineers domain of expertise, provide strong technical skills and experience within the LME Digital Workplace team and to other LME technology teams
Working with IT Production Operations, Information Security and other key stakeholders contribute to the creation of Long-Term strategies and Roadmaps
Maintaining the strong working relationship between Information Security and operations teams
Apply knowledge to delivery of project related deliverables such as high and low level designs
Share knowledge, experience and directly contribute to the LME’s continual service improvement plans
In addition, the role will have the following direct responsibilities:
Design, delivery and maintenance of LME Windows 11 standard builds ensuring the builds are patched and enhanced to meet CIS Standards
Using detailed knowledge of InTune, SCCM, Entra ID Active Directory, Conditional Access Policies, Group Policy, User Profile Management and security concepts to provide a CIS compliant service.
Using detailed knowledge of EUC technologies to support the VDI estate
Using detailed knowledge of Office 365, InTune (or similar product) and collaboration solutions to deliver an improved end user experience
Defining end user personalization and EUC analytics with Aternity
Participation in projects, bringing technology roadmap expertise to bear particularly in the project planning and design phase, with oversight through the build and implementation phases
Contribution or ownership of high-level designs (dependent on technology, scale and overall requirement) specific to the engineers realm of experience
Creating low-level pattern or template designs
Implementing technology defined in a low-level pattern or design
Provide consultancy to project or operational teams to ensure appropriate selection of technology
Liaison with architects, operational and project teams to ensure patterns and standard building blocks meet LME requirements
Engineering of Trading Floor technology
Performance, compatibility testing and dependency management between components
Knowledge transfer to IT operational teams for new technology or project deliveries, including process and technical documentation
Maintenance of DW engineering delivered documentation, roadmaps and similar artifacts to ensure currency
Contribute to the delivery of efficient solutions to meet business continuity and disaster recovery requirements
Where appropriate, creation, maintenance and communication of technical infrastructure platform standards
When appropriate, participate in operational change management process
When appropriate, ensure suitable contribution to major incident recovery processes
Required Technical Knowledge and Level of Experience –
Extensive technical experience with Microsoft Windows 10 and proven track of creating secure builds and related standards
Extensive technical experience with desktop hardware and SCCM
Extensive experience and detailed technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS or other LDAP services
Extensive technical experience with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp
Working knowledge of Exchange, Skype for Business, SharePoint, Office and PowerBI
Working knowledge of mobility solutions to provide a seamless user experience across the desktop, laptop, tablets to smartphones, with an appropriate enterprise mobility management suite
Proven technical experience in IT infrastructure to deliver low level designs across multiple streams and ensure compliance to the related High Level Design
The determination to automate all things and adheres to software development disciplines with very strong knowledge of PowerShell
Extensive experience participating in release engineering – build or code promotion from dev to production
Experience of technologies used by trading floors
