Service Administrator

The closing date is 09 January 2026

  • The role will coordinate and organise the attendance of patients to outpatient, inpatient & day case appointments in line with local team and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust arrangements as instructed
  • Ensure all administrative processes; and enquiries are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner, following agreed standard operating procedures, escalating to senior manager as appropriate
  • Undertake general clerical duties to maximise all available capacity in an appropriate way
  • Proof reading clinical letters (please note there is no audio typing in this role)
  • Monitoring waiting times, ensuring that our patients treatment pathways, from referral to treatment are accurate and up to date (for more information on what this means please visit - NHS England Referral to treatment)
  • Ensure all information is secure and confidentiality of information is maintained at all times
  • Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy. Hospitals visits can be stressful and daunting you will need to be good communicator with strong customer service skills

We are looking to recruit 3 enthusiastic and motivated Service Administrators to join the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, in our Administration Team for a 12 month fixed term contract. The successful candidates must be highly motivated with excellent communication skills, enjoy working within busy and vibrant teams, are able to prioritise their workload and can work well under pressure. Secretarial experience, knowledge of working in a hospital environment and medical terminology are all desirable for this role, but not essential.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proven experience in dealing with service users on the telephone. You will be flexible and adaptable with excellent IT skills.

You will need to enjoy the challenge of working as part of a busy team yet have the ability to use your own initiative to meet the changing needs of the department and Orthopaedic service as a whole.

If you feel you would be able to meet the demands of this challenging and rewarding role, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Visits to the department are welcome and encouraged.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, between 08:30 and 17:00
