A healthcare provider in the UK seeks a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Otology and Paediatric ENT to join their team. The role includes responsibilities such as providing and developing the ENT service, training Specialty Registrars, and potentially participating in research. Located in Rotherham, this substantive replacement post offers comprehensive support and the opportunity to work with a dedicated medical team.
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Otology and Paediatric ENT to join our friendly and supportive team of ENT Surgeons in Rotherham. This is a substantive replacement post. The department currently consists of 5 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty doctors, 1 Specialty Registrar and 6 Foundation/Core trainees working jointly with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals. Day-case surgery and outpatient clinics are provided at Rotherham Hospital with inpatient care provided at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Whilst this post requires the individual to be on the Specialist register or within 6 months of CCT, applications may be considered from candidates who meet the other requirements of the person specification. Those applicants who meet the full person specification will take precedence, but any successful candidate appointed on this basis would be on a locum contract for an initial period of up to 12 months.
Virtually all aspects of ENT are carried out by the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust Consultants, except those requiring regional involvement for example skull base surgery and specialised paediatrics. Day surgery and outpatient clinics are held at the Rotherham NHS foundation trust site, whilst inpatient surgery and emergencies, including on-call work, are carried out at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The out of hours on‑call commitment is currently 1:13 with prospective cover.
The post holder will contribute to the provision and development of the general ENT and otology service, including paediatric ENT, at Rotherham. They will work as part of a team of 5 Consultants and will be expected to contribute to the training of the Specialty Registrars who rotate through the Yorkshire and Humberside Training Rotation, as well as providing supervision and support to our SAS grade and Resident medical staff. There are opportunities to be involved in medical audit and research as well as the teaching of medical undergraduates. The post holder will be provided with secretarial support and office space necessary to maintain their clinical practice.

The Department
The department currently consists of 5 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 3 Specialty Doctors, 1 Specialty Registrar and 6 ST1/2 doctors working jointly with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals. At any one time Rotherham Hospital has 2 ST1/2 doctors present at the main site between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00. They would attend clinics and theatres, deal with post‑operative reviews and emergency work.
The Post

Day surgery is performed at the Rotherham main site, inpatient surgery and emergencies, including on‑call work, are undertaken at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
This is a substantive replacement post. The post holder will contribute to the General ENT and Otology service in Rotherham with in‑patient care in Doncaster. The successful applicant should be able to cover General ENT, Paediatric ENT and Otology. There is a strong emphasis on day surgery and accelerated recovery. Along with routine procedures, it is standard practice for patients undergoing mastoidectomy, myringoplasty, septorhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery, to have surgery as day cases.

The post‑holder will be expected to contribute to the training of the registrars who rotate through the South Yorkshire and Humberside Training Rotation.
The post holder will be provided with secretarial support to maintain their clinical practice. Currently ENT Consultants share office space. In addition head and neck cancer patients are supported by a full‑time Clinical Nurse Specialist in Head and Neck, to assist with the day to day care of head and neck patients.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
