A leading data solutions provider is seeking a Lead Data Platform Engineer to oversee Microsoft SQL Server environments and spearhead the migration to a cloud-based platform. The role requires hands-on experience in SQL Server administration and cloud migrations, alongside strong data warehousing knowledge. Responsibilities include optimizing database performance and ensuring security, availability, and recoverability. This permanent position offers a hybrid work model with 3 days onsite in Essex.

Lead Data Platform Engineer
Microsoft SQL Server & Cloud Data Platform Migration

Fulltime - Hybrid (3 days onsite in Essex)
We’re looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer / DBA to lead the administration of Microsoft SQL Server environments and play a key role in migrating the on-premise data warehouse to a modern, cloud-based data platform.
- Hands on expertise in administering Microsoft SQL Server (on-premise)
- Experience supporting production systems and ERP databases
- Cloud migrations for data warehouses or data platforms
- Data warehousing concepts (fact / dimension modelling, ETL / ELT)
- Data integration tools such as SSIS
- Experience supporting Power BI and on-premise gateways
- Excellent troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a small team
- Experience with Azure (Azure SQL, Synapse, Fabric, Data Factory) or other cloud platforms
- Experience designing modern ELT architectures
- Administer, monitor and optimise SQL Server environments
- Ensure database availability, performance, security and recoverability
- Lead the design and delivery of the data warehouse migration to the cloud
- Design scalable architectures to support reporting and analytics
- Plan and execute the migration with minimal business impact
- Establish best-practice cloud administration processes post-migration
- Design, build and maintain data pipelines and data flows
- Orchestrate data movement across operational systems, the data warehouse and reporting platforms
