Our school embraces an innovative, questioning approach to all aspects of education, re-imagining our understandings so that we create a collaborative, human-centred, learning community. We purposefully strive to make a difference - to realise the full potential of everyone in our school.
We are committed to the values and mission of the IB. We offer the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme to a diverse community of students aged 11 - 18, and consciously endeavour to be the best, and most authentic, of IB schools. We support this through exceptional standards of professional practice, beginning with the recruitment of the most creative, thoughtful, dynamic, passionate and innovative educators. And once you join our team, we place great value on on-going, professional learning and provide everyone - teachers and administrators - with an extensive professional development programme. We are learners first and foremost.
Advocates for Halcyon's philosophical commitments as an IB World School
Halcyon has an extraordinary group of educators. Each teacher is not only a wonderful practitioner in the classroom - creative, dedicated, diligent, passionate - they are also thoughtful, reflective colleagues, supporting each other to be better each day. We are nurturing and collaborative, so that we can reach and enjoy the high standards we set ourselves. We have a culture of digital excellence: we are a Google Reference School and an Apple Training Centre. Our staff are always welcoming of professional feedback, and always embrace student voice and agency in the classroom; we listen and learn from each other and from the students.
The school environment is fresh and modern. We provide staff and students with a first-class Apple teaching environment; all students have an iPad or laptop computer, and all staff are provided with an iPad and Macbook. All classrooms have LED screens and Apple TVs, to project from any device in any room. We are very well-resourced, and colleagues have a generous, open, team budget. Class sizes are 16 students or fewer.
Halcyon is committed to investing in the diversity and wellbeing of our community and to creating an inclusive culture where everyone can be the best that they can be. We strive to recruit people from a wide variety of backgrounds: we intend to create a collaborative and innovative culture that celebrates different perspectives and values respect for one another, learning together, openness and integrity. A commitment to diversity ensures we continue to provide a learning experience that empowers every student to reach their full and unique potential.
Halcyon London International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and will check the suitability of staff to work with children. Applicants must be willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and overseas police checks (where necessary). Please see our Safeguarding & Promoting the Welfare of Children Policy for full details of our safer recruitment procedures.
Teacher - Student Ratio
Students in our community
Our school provides a nurturing, positive, open professional learning environment. We are dedicated to our mission and our students, and we will always go beyond. We enjoy being challenged, together, and we accept change; we welcome the opportunity to try new ideas or explore different perspectives.Staff wellbeing is built upon the principle that we need to be heard and recognised to have meaning and purpose in our professional lives. Be design, we are a small team -60 colleagues in both teaching and administration - in a small school. Our team is who we are: everyone has a voice, and this is always accompanied by responsibility and accountability. We succeed together because we spend time across the community building authentic, purposeful, reflective, self-aware professional relationships. We create the same authentic, respective relationships with our students.
We offer a very competitive salary, school pension contribution, a reduction in dependent’s school fees (75%), and interest-free loans for travel cards.
All our staff members enjoy a daily morning snack, three-course vegetarian lunch and fresh fruit and snacks.
We are consciously non-hierarchical, meaning that colleagues have the means and opportunity to bring all kinds of new ideas into our shared practice. We offer a range of leadership projects roles each year, and each project provides the opportunity to shape a significant learning impact in our school.
All our staff are trained in cognitive coaching and restorative practices. Additionally, we have a generous professional development programme.
We want the best people in our team - no matter where they are. That's why we provide a generous relocation allowance.
What our teachers say about us
I taught in other international schools in London before choosing to join Halcyon when it opened in 2013. At the very beginning, I was really intrigued to help a new, innovative school to try to be the very best IB school that it could possibly be. It’s just a refreshing, wonderful environment to work in
