Job summary
A leading UK construction firm is seeking a proactive Design Manager to join their team, involved in full project life cycles including significant government frameworks projects. The ideal candidate will have a HNC or degree in Building Studies, Design Management, or Architecture and experience in new builds and modular construction. Responsibilities include coordinating design teams, managing design risks, and fostering collaborative working environments. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting large-scale projects valued up to £50 million.
Qualifications
- Experience in new build and modular projects.
- Previous experience with Ministry of Justice (MOJ) projects.
- Ability to develop effective communication with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate project team comments and resolve design-related queries.
- Manage design team and construction team coordination.
- Facilitate design coordination and progress meetings.
- Produce Contractors’ Proposals and oversee design timelines.

Salter Grange is in search of a proactive Design Manager to join one of the UK's largest privately‑owned construction, development, and property services companies.
With an impressive annual turnover of £2 billion and a busy schedule of projects, the company is looking to recruit a Design Manager to join them on nationwide government frameworks projects with values of £5 m – £20 m.
The successful Design Manager will be involved in the full project life cycle and will be involved in an exciting £50 m Commercial Fit‑Out/Refurbishment scheme in the UK to support the development and management of the design function within the business.
- Coordinate project team comments and resolve any design‑related construction queries with the design team
- Demonstrate a desire to constantly learn, improve and share knowledge and experience
- Demonstrate management qualities to encourage effective design team and construction team coordination and collaborative working to meet the Project goals
- Understand the project requirements, including Client brief & business processes, and Employer Requirements
- Assist in the mitigation of design risks as part of the team
- Take part in design coordination and design progress meetings with the design team and subcontractors, and ensure that design risk assessments are produced
- Support in the production of the Contractors’ Proposals
- Collaborate with all pertinent stakeholders to formulate and oversee a pragmatic design timeline and information schedule
- Champion the implementation of Continuous Improvement strategies and innovation
- Verify that designs undergo thorough review and validation to achieve compliance
- Mitigate health and safety concerns and address design intricacies
- HNC in Building Studies, Degree in Design Management or Architecture
- Previous experience in the new build, modular and MOJ experience
- A positive ‘can‑do’ attitude, a sense of responsibility and a passion for collaborative working
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders
