JOB SUMMARY: The post holder will be a senior therapist within the intensive support team, based in an identified locality. They will also provide senior support to Speech and Language therapists in other localities, offering support and advice, and direct input into complex and high-risk cases when required. The post holder will work within the intensive support team, contributing to multidisciplinary assessments for individuals in crisis or at high risk within the community. They will also contribute to a continuous pathway for service users, including in-reaching into the inpatient unit when necessary. The post holder will be a source of expertise in dysphasia and risk assessment, providing support and advice to others. KEY RESULT AREAS:

• Independently assess, diagnose, and manage communication and swallowing needs of clients, especially those with complex difficulties and challenging behaviour, maximizing health and social benefits.
• Manage clients for whom English is not the first language.
• Work as part of the intensive support team to provide effective, responsive services, including direct and indirect intervention, consultation, and support within a multidisciplinary framework.
• Provide advisory work, second opinions, peer reviews, and support the development of clinical skills among staff.
• Provide clinical supervision for other SLT posts across localities, including direct input into complex cases where appropriate.
• Liaise with significant others involved in client management, both within and outside the NHS, ensuring needs are met efficiently.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions, especially when recommendations conflict, to facilitate quality of life and best interest decisions.
• Manage own caseload, including clinical administration and appointments, ensuring a cost-effective, quality service.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous client records (within 24 hours) to ensure compliance with standards.
• Work independently with clients exhibiting challenging behaviour and conduct risk assessments in the community as required.

• Contribute to strategies for meeting local and national priorities impacting service delivery.
• Participate in clinical research and contribute to relevant publications in the field.

• Adhere to clinical governance standards, including audits, evaluations, and risk management.
• Undertake annual appraisals and regular supervision.
• Provide clinical supervision to less experienced staff, including assistants and newly qualified therapists, and supervise clinical placements for students.

• Identify and manage clinical resources, ensuring security, maintenance, and proper inventory.
• Assist non-NHS colleagues in resource identification to support communication and safe swallowing.

• Develop and deliver training packages within the clinical area to educate multidisciplinary teams and families/carers.
• Identify and pursue CPD opportunities to stay up-to-date.
• Provide practical training to junior staff and supervise clinical placements as needed.
