JOB TITLE: Health, Safety & Environmental Manager
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
JOB PURPOSE: The HSE Manager oversees the implementation of health, safety and environmental policies within the company. Develop strategies to promote a safety culture, reduce occupational risks, and ensure regulatory compliance. Identify risk areas, assess incidents, and propose corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and implement HSE policies aligned with current standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Organise training sessions to raise awareness among staff regarding risks and best safety practices.
- Ensure compliance training is regularly assessed and updated.
- Investigate HSE incidents and claims, analyse causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain and interrogate Integrated Management System and audit programme for Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
- Maintain updated documents and reports concerning incidents and inspections.
- Ensure the availability and proper functioning of safety equipment.
- Ensure that all activities comply with current regulations.
- Periodically assess HSE performance and propose improvement actions.
- Identify and assess risks on site and develop plans to mitigate and eliminate those risks, including risk assessments.
- Help us build a risk-aware, safety-focused culture that serves our employees and our community with excellence.
- Create an annual HSE plan and train employees and managers on updated procedures.
- Lead HSE committee meetings on site, providing relevant data, and supporting any actions arising from the meeting.
- Drive our environmental and sustainability efforts forward to meet our targets and work with our wider Group Compliance team to support this.
- Create and maintain key HSE KPI’s on a monthly basis.
- Ensure all new employees receive a robust HSE induction on commencement of employment.
- High level of visibility on the shopfloor is essential.
- Aim for a 100% safety record on site.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and lead the team to implement SSO14001, working towards ISO45001.
- Ensure compliance with REACh EU and UK legislation, communicating through the supply chain to ensure the business is unaffected by any changes in legislation or registration thresholds.
- Ensure compliance to CLP regulations and communicate any changes to the rest of the business.
- Assist Managers in developing and implementing new projects.
- Additional Duties: To undertake other activities identified from time to time commensurate with the level of the post.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations specific to Manufacturing particularly polymers.
- Ability to develop, implement, and manage HSE policies.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Excellent IT skills using Microsoft packages and a good working knowledge of using IMS systems.
- Excellent communication and awareness-raising skills.
- Teamwork ability and motivation to foster a strong safety culture.
- Good organisational and communication skills and production of concise information.
- Ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines, both prescribed and self – imposed.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels.
- Able to demonstrate achievement of continuous improvement in the workplace.
- Proven experience of managing safety in a manufacturing environment.
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- IEMA certificate in Environmental Management.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Internal auditor for ISO14001.
