Job summary
A regional health authority is looking for experienced candidates to join their Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. This role involves independent work in clinics and theatres, covering a 1:7 on-call rota, teaching medical students, and engaging in research activities. Applicants must have GMC registration and the necessary qualifications, with a strong focus on clinical experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery within a multi-disciplinary team context. Opportunities for development and fellowships will be offered.
Qualifications
- GMC registered medical qualification and license to practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR.
- Fellowship in a sub-specialty is desired.
Responsibilities
- Work independently in clinic and theatre for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
- Cover the on-call rota for North Yorkshire on a 1:7 basis.
- Participate in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
- Engage in research activities and contribute to MDT meetings.

Here at York and Scarborough NHS Trust we serve the impressive historic city itself but also cover the original seaside resort of Scarborough and the spa town of Harrogate. Candidates will contribute to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on-call rota covering the diverse area of North Yorkshire on a 1:7 basis.
We offer excellent opportunities for career development, with sizeable skin, head and neck and orthognathic practices, working closely with other hospital teams and MDTs. Experience or fellowships could be offered in these areas with time available in job plans for development. In York we understand the long career pathway and the need to keep motivated. The department and Trust both offer a welcoming and dynamic working environment, with opportunities to participate in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). Research opportunities are encouraged.
Candidates must have full GMC Registration and sufficient experience in the specialty to work independently in clinic and theatre. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous. Applications from speciality trainees within 6 months of CCT are welcomed.

- Supervise StRs/specialist trainees where appropriate
- Work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team with ENT, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Audiology
- Engage in research activities and contribute to MDT meetings
- Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
- Hold a licence to practise with the General Medical Council
- Entry on the relevant GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR
- MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
- Fellowship in a sub‑specialty
- Substantive NHS experience
- Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
- Experience of supervising StRs/specialist trainees
- Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in all areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
- Hold a licence to practise with the General Medical Council
- Entry on the relevant GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR
