Job summary
A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Design Manager to lead a high-performing design team in the water infrastructure sector. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in the engineering design industry, with a strong focus on regulated water projects. Responsibilities include managing engineers and CAD technicians, ensuring delivery quality and timelines, and driving the design process. This role offers both contract and permanent options.
Qualifications
- 10 years' experience in engineering design industry, preferably in regulated water or wastewater projects.
- Track record managing multidisciplinary design teams and projects.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Manage, direct and develop engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates.
- Lead the design process on multidisciplinary water industry projects.
- Ensure design deliverables satisfy safety and quality requirements.

- Manage, direct and develop engineers, CAD technicians and graduates.

- Challenge, improve and shape formal processes and procedures for design team and ensure work is undertaken using them.
- Identify and implement appropriate software packages, and drive the use of BIM and 3D modelling where necessary.
- Ensure team produce design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements and are fully integrated.
- Ensure team produce design deliverables within agreed timescales and hours.
- Ensure team use appropriate standards, best practice and software tools.
- Ensure project change for design packages is fully recorded.
- Assist with estimating hours required for design packages.
- 10 years' experience working in the engineering design industry in a regulated sector ideally Water or wastewater projectsli>
- Graduate or HND.
- Good level IT.
- Experience in regulated water industry.
- Track record managing multidisciplinary design teams and projects.
- Experience building teams and capability of junior staff.
- Driving licence & access to vehicle.
- Chartered engineer or working towards chartership.
