Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an INITIAL FIXED TERM SALARIED GP with the possibility of a longer-term option at Radbrook Green Surgery.

4 sessions per week commencing from 1st October 2025.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our current team at Radbrook Green Surgery. We are a friendly, well-established practice serving the local population on the south of Shrewsbury. We pride ourselves on regularly received positive patient feedback about the level of clinical care. We have a stable clinical team to help deliver this.

Main duties of the job

The sessions offer 15- minute face to face appointments and 10-minute telephone appointments. Home visits are sometimes required during the working day.

Administration time will be allocated for lab results/ scripts and Docman.

Annual leave and study leave: As per BMA model contract.

About Us

Radbrook Green Surgery is a well-established practice with a growing list size currently around 10900 patients. The practice sits in a small suburb of Shrewsbury, approx. 1.5 miles from the town centre. We have a long history of training, both GP Registrars and medical students from Keele Medical School.

We are a 6-partner practice with an excellent skilled team made up of 2 salaried GPs, an ACP, 2 practice nurses, 3 HCAs and an administrative team.

The practice works alongside 11 other practices as a member of the Shrewsbury Primary Care Network. We have access to a range of appointments provided by the ARRS staff which include a physician associate, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social prescribers, mental health workers, first contact practitioners and a paramedic home visiting team.

We work together with our patients, teams and partners to provide a well-led practice which is welcoming, inclusive, forward thinking and patient centred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE - SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2026

REPORTS TO - THE PARTNERS -Clinically

THE PRACTICE MANAGER - Administratively

SESSIONS: 4 sessions

JOB SUMMARY

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest of standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with the Practice timetable, and with sessions determined by mutual agreement, the post-holder will make themself available to undertake a variety of duties including:

surgery consultations, online consultations and queries relating to said consultations

visiting patients at home or nursing homes

ordering and processing results from appropriate investigations

checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with any queries that may be relevant to this

administrative tasks and correspondence

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early sign of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling and health education.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous notes to agreed standards.

Collecting data for audit purposes.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions -avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible

Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary - or generically whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Use excellent time management skills to ensure that all tasks are carried out in an efficient timescale.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, in line with the GMC Good Medical Practice guidance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN THE ORGANISATION

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies-guidelines. E.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.

Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.

Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Available to cover the absence -planned or unplanned - of other GP colleagues.

Fair share of Extended Access Clinics.

Fair share of supervision of other trainee clinicians e.g.Registrars and Medical Students
