Ambulance Support Team Leader (Nights)

We're looking for a proactive and organised Team Leader to join our Ambulance Support Team. In this vital role, you'll oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring vehicles meet infection prevention standards and supporting the team to deliver a high-quality service. Responsibilities include supervising staff performance, managing workloads, conducting audits, and maintaining health and safety best practices. You'll also liaise with key departments, handle stock control, and assist with major incident support when required.

Main duties of the job

As an Ambulance Support Team Leader, you will supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of the Ambulance Support Team, ensuring high standards of infection prevention and control.

Duties include overseeing staff performance and conduct, scheduling and prioritizing workloads, conducting audits and appraisals, and maintaining health and safety practices.

You'll also assist with vehicle deep cleaning, manage stock control, liaise with fleet and supplies teams, support major incident procedures, and ensure compliance with Trust policies and data protection requirements.

Job responsibilities
  • Supervises the attendance, performance and conduct of the team members in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Carrying out Vehicle Deep Cleaning preparation duties alongside the team members on a rotating shift basis.
  • Responsible for carrying out assessments/audits in line with IPC compliance and conducting annual appraisals.
  • Monitoring services to maintain infection control standards and ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained safely.
  • Liaising with the Supplies Department for stock ordering and control, and with fleet, crews and the Resource Manager for vehicle availability and equipment repairs.
  • Monitoring compliance with Trust policies on vehicle equipping and fuelling and compiling records.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of good health and safety practice, including risk assessments.
  • Providing support to major incident procedures as required, e.g.; equipment or supplies taken to the scene.
  • Assisting in the monitoring and supervision of staff attendance in accordance with Trust procedure for Managing Sickness Absence.
  • Ensuring work is organised for the team members, including prioritising workload in line with organisational/divisional targets and priorities.
  • Managing workload, ensuring a timely and quality service, delivering high standards of administration.
  • Managing requests for annual leave and maintaining annual leave records.
  • Assisting in the investigation and collation of information regarding complaints concerning the Ambulance Support Team.
  • Assisting in the selection of new staff and responsible for training, induction and development advising them on policies and practices within the service.
  • Maintaining appropriate record systems to support the effective management of staff and resources and ensuring the security of patient and staff confidential information.
  • Making recommendations for improvements in working practices where appropriate.
  • Demonstrating commitment to continuously improving own skills and competencies to ensure a high standard of supervision of the team.
  • Any other reasonable duties within the scope of the post.
