Locum Consultant Body Radiologist

The closing date is 06 January 2026

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Consultant Radiologist to join a team of 20 WTE Body Radiologists in a busy, dynamic department of 48 WTE radiology consultants delivering first class emergency and non-acute services.

We are a Level 1 Trauma centre for a population of 2.6 million, a regional Vascular Hub and the 3rd busiest vascular unit in England, the first 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service in the UK with an active role in training hybrid IRs to support the stroke service, and a regional centre for patient groups such as Cardiothoracic, GI, GU, Breast, Haematology/Oncology and Gynae imaging. The post-holder will be involved in imaging and interventions, which underpin these services, together with being part of a busy body emergency radiology on-call service.

The Imaging Department at UHNM is a busy department providing both general and specialist services in diagnostic and interventional imaging. It is a large department which carries out over 400,000 examinations every year.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to a mix of diagnostic reporting sessions, diagnostic US Lists and MDT contribution. The provision of a first-class service supporting vascular surgery, urology, GI surgery, renal medicine, amongst others, with whom we have a well-established, warm and collaborative relationship and support patient management through MDT's and clinics. MDTs are rotated equally between colleagues with appropriate preparation and admin time allocated.

A desirable but not essential attribute would be the ability to contribute to the service for US, fluoroscopy and CT guided intervention.

Opportunities may exist for flexible working, extended working day and weekend working and additional PA's, depending on service need.

Working in an Acute Teaching Hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and research, and a high- quality patient experience affords exciting opportunities for a motivated candidate.

About us

UHNM has a robust diagnostic imaging training program, as part of the West Midlands Deanery. There are around 42 postgraduate doctors in training (PGiT), as well as at least one Foundation doctor. The on-call services are well supported by the PGDiT 24/7. To support training there is the award-winning West Midlands Imaging Academy based between both sites, offering a range of state-of-the-art simulators for US and interventional procedures together with rooms of dedicated workstation linked with the latest audiovisual equipment. The Imaging Academy has recently launched the first dedicated training programme for mechanical thrombectomy in England. Keele University Medical School has a radiology curriculum, with medical students rotating through the department.

The Imaging Service is based on a strong ethos of Quality Assurance, Audit, Evidence and Research. UHNM is a research active organisation with many active oncology trials, many of which require radiology support. The Imaging Department is also building up a portfolio of imaging-based research aligning to the Trust priority to become a major clinical research centre.

At UHNM we are adopting a continuous improvement methodology as the way we work operationally. It is underpinned by our Trust Values. All staff will be trained to work in this way and by using it we can all make small changes every day to improve our services so we can provide 'the best' joined up care for all
