Overview

The role involves inputting a range of pay-affecting data into the National ESR Payroll system and performing various calculations, such as PAYE, National Insurance, Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), and Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). We are looking to recruit a Trainee Payroll Officer who has a passion for delivering excellent customer experience to clients, an excellent telephone manner, and strong administrative and IT skills. The candidate must demonstrate attention to detail and a commitment to contributing to service improvement and development. The work is carried out to strict deadlines, with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail. The role includes taking appropriate recovery action based on individual circumstances and advising employees in accordance with departmental procedures. Corrective actions are undertaken in the ESR system to ensure accurate calculations of statutory deductions and correct entries.

Responsibilities
  • Input pay-related data into the ESR Payroll system and perform calculations (PAYE, National Insurance, SMP, SSP).
  • Maintain accuracy under deadlines and ensure correct entries and deductions are made.
  • Take appropriate recovery action based on individual circumstances and advise employees per departmental procedures.
Qualifications
  • 4 GCSEs grade C or above (including mathematics).
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office packages.
  • Understanding and knowledge of dealing with sensitive and confidential issues, work policies and procedures (GDPR).
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working with PCs and technology.
  • Experience of ESR system.
  • Knowledge of NHS Terms & Conditions of service, including Agenda for Change and Medical and Dental.
