Job description
Overview

I’m Stephen, I’m a tele-coach in the First Response Service. Our team are based in Huntingdon, but we offer support across the county to people of all ages. I joined the team a couple of years ago, I can’t convey how much development and growth my mental health practice has experienced in this time. The role is essentially to support people in often their most difficult moments and help them find a way to manage this and move forward. There is a strong focus on working together as a team, in addition there are lots of knowledge sharing and internal development opportunities, with colleagues who specialise in differing age groups and disorders. As part of the front door into NHS mental health services I can’t imagine a better place to see so much variety and support so many people. I have loved being part of such a pioneering and award winning team.

To allow us to provide a 24/7 service we work in shifts, so you’ll be working long days of earlies, late and nights (08:00-20:00, 11:00-23:00, 20:00-08:00). Whilst each shift will be overseen by a Clinical Lead you will need to be able to work without direct supervision.

Role and responsibilities

Our role as Psychological Wellbeing Tele-coach is to provide support to people of all ages who identify or have been identified as being in a mental health crisis. We perform brief clinical risk and mental state assessments, formulation to ascertain the risk level for each individual. We also provide brief psychological interventions. As a Tele-coach you will become an expert in providing validation, de-escalating crisis, and coaching people in distress tolerance and emotional regulation strategies.

A key aspect of this role is the ability to undertake clinical risk assessments, based on the latest empirical evidence to ensure compliance with local policies and procedures. You will be working with patients at their most vulnerable and will need to work with the team and seek support and guidance from senior colleagues wherever necessary.

Whilst the telecoach role is predominantly phone work there is an opportunity to support the first responders on community face to face assessments and work as a valued member of a full MDT team as well as work closely with other community agencies including emergency services and other mental health services.
