The roleWithin this role, you will integrate advanced quantitative research into the development and implementation of strategic investment advice and funding policies. As a key member of the ALM and Research Analytics team, you will ensure that client portfolios are managed with a strategic perspective that aligns with Railpen's mission and values.
You will leverage your technical expertise to perform analysis using our internal ALM tools. Your work will involve maintaining asset liability models, conducting research, and translating findings into practical tools and actionable insights, that support investment strategy decision-making. You will develop tailored investment strategies for individual DB schemes/sections, ensuring alignment with shorter-term goals as well as longer-term journey plans.
You will balance technical analysis with practical considerations, understand the Trustees' perspectives, and navigate the regulatory framework. Your ability to incorporate qualitative analysis alongside quantitative research will be crucial in developing well-rounded investment strategies tailored to the client/trustee to support the advisory process.

The personWe’re looking for you to bring a solid understanding of defined benefit (DB) pension schemes, funding dynamics, and regulatory requirements. Your background will likely be a similar in-house role or UK consultancy environment, where you’ve gained exposure to ALM, investment strategy, and/or pension funding policy. Along with your research and operational modelling skills, you understand the Client side, Advisory approach.
With strong analytical skills, you have a keen interest in investment research and are methodical, rigorous and accurate in your work. And in the evolving pensions landscape, you’ll need to be proactive and adaptable in your approach. You will support the provision of investment advice and recommendations to the Trustee Board and its Committees and identify and deliver client training needs in a clear and digestible manner.
Working cross-functionally, we’ll be looking for you to have a collaborative style and be a skilled relationship builder. To effectively translate complex insights into clear, actionable recommendations, you’ll need to demonstrate excellent written communications skills. And verbally, we’re looking for you to be a highly confident communicator, as the conduit between internal teams and the Trustees.
