Job summary

Job description
Overview

We are a rapidly growing area within college and as such require additional technical support. We are looking for a general art and design technician with skills in a range of areas.

The Creative and Digital department comprises of Art and Design, Media, Performing Arts and Esports with a commercial theatre also on site. There are a wide range of vocational programmes from level 1-3 on offer. The area benefits from a wide range of specialist vocational equipment. In the area of art and design this includes a dye room, fashion and textiles room, workshop spaces, classrooms, specialist print room, darkroom, 3D workshop and art studios. Additionally, the area has many computer rooms for graphics and photography work.

Responsibilities
  • Work across a range of areas, supporting staff and students to prepare materials and equipment for lessons and where required support staff in lessons where students are using machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Maintain, distribute and store consumables, tools and equipment related to the vocational area.
  • Manage an effective and efficient storage system, maintain specialist tools, equipment and machinery to ensure staff and students have access to working and maintained resources at the right time for delivery and projects.
  • Arrange servicing of sewing machines, washing printing screens, preparing materials and resources, making painting frames, mixing inks or dyes, cleaning work areas and setting up photography equipment.
  • Log in and out all equipment and ensure it is ready for collection and return at agreed times; ensure equipment is fit for use and returned in good working order.
  • Support delivery teams and student groups by setting up a variety of resources and teaching aids and manage the safe operation of specialist facilities; ensure all resources, facilities and equipment comply with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ensure specialist areas and facilities are clean and tidy and comply with Health and Safety regulations; support in the induction of students.
  • Undertake essential minor maintenance tasks and arrange external servicing for larger maintenance tasks.
  • Update health and safety documentation and follow health and safety guidance; training in COSHH will be provided.
  • Assist teaching teams in preparation of equipment, areas and workshops and support staff and students with the use of such equipment and processes within workshop settings.
