Job description
The Opportunity

The Systems Engineer (Windows and Linux) role is hybrid-working from Manchester with a salary of £55,000 to £60,000 per year, plus excellent company benefits and incentives.

I'm on the lookout for a Systems Engineer to provide technical support for a field engineering team who are undertaking installation, commissioning and maintenance activities for technologies on the UK motorway network.

You will support the operation of a communication system, providing operational and technical support to customers, system users and other stakeholders while ensuring delivery and maintenance tasks are undertaken to a high standard.

Skills and Experience
  • A proven background working as a Systems Engineer in an engineering environment (Defence, Telecoms, Rail, Highways, Energy, etc.)
  • Strong IP Networking skills including addressing, subnetting IP Networks, routing, etc.
  • Experience working with highways technology or traffic signals would be highly desirable
  • Windows and Linux configuration and system administration skills, including experience with the following:
    • Build and maintain clusters
    • Operation of Hypervisor and virtual machines within clusters
    • System administration with products such as Linux and LUCI
    • Linux Shell and Scripting tools including bash
    • Disk partitioning
Role and Responsibilities
  • Support the operations of a team working on the live communication system
  • Provide operational and technical support to customers, system users and other stakeholders
  • Undertake fault investigation and dissemination of relevant diagnostic information
  • Produce technical documents, system design specifications, test specifications, etc.
