Overview
This is a full‑time opportunity on a 23‑month fixed‑term contract, internal move, secondment, loan or temporary promotion basis. The role is based onsite at the Science Campus in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. The position can only be worked in the UK.
About Infrastructure and Laboratory Services (ILS)
ILS is part of the Corporate Group and delivers engineering and specialist support to maintain a safe working environment in specialist scientific facilities. ILS supports the Agency work by delivering clear funded programmes to maintain infrastructure, facilities, equipment and invest in unique scientific facilities. A centralised support process provides efficiencies, savings and value for money.
Division Structure
- Facilities & Laboratory Services – day‑to‑day running and support of sites, laboratories and specialised facilities, security, catering, cleaning, waste and liaison with the 10th Floor.
- Engineering – management of complex buildings and infrastructure, adherence to critical health and safety requirements and response to alarms 24/7.
- Specialist Project & Programme Management – delivery of the South Mimms Site Capital and Revenue Programme, supporting Project Managers/Team Managers and Portfolio Leads through project management processes, contract management and coordination of business management actions.
- Planning and Scheduling – ensuring systems are in place for effective planning and scheduling.
- Monitoring & Reporting – managing project controls, reporting to the Project Manager or Team Manager on project status and developing project and contract performance reports.
- Administration – efficient organisational tasks, secretariat support for Portfolio Board Meetings and compliance with security, health & safety, equality & diversity, business continuity and business planning.
- Financial Control – coordination of project and contract spend, contribution to budgets and project business case.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of the South Mimms Site Capital and Revenue Programme.
- Operate project management processes, contract management and coordinate business management actions.
- Manage project controls and report status to the Project Manager or Team Manager.
- Develop project and contract performance reports.
- Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently.
- Provide secretariat support for Portfolio Board Meetings.
- Manage compliance with departmental security, health & safety, equality & diversity, business continuity and business planning.
- Coordinate and manage project and contract spend and contribute to budget compilation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in all aspects of project support: scheduling, risk & issue management, change control and governance.
- Effective stakeholder engagement experience.
- Experience evaluating and promoting best practices and lessons learned.
- Good organisational and management experience of project work.
- Relevant qualifications: PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM Project Management Qualification, Contract Management qualification or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of MS Office tools in a project environment (Word, PowerPoint & Excel).
- Experience working with Agile methods.
- Experience in managing capital programmes, lab refurbishments or similar.
Other Requirements
- Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check, animal rights and pro‑life activism checks, and a criminal record check.
- For certain roles, vaccinations and routine health surveillance may be required.
- All applicants must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.

- UK nationals.
- Republic of Ireland nationals.
- Commonwealth nationals with right to work in the UK.
- EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein nationals and family members with settled or pre‑settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

Employment and Benefits
- Annual Leave: 25 days, rising to a maximum of 30 days with service.
