Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act for at least 5 and a half years and practical experience in the use of Mental Health Act
  • Good working knowledge of the mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • At least 12 years experience since primary medical qualification, of which least 6 years in adult psychiatry
Desirable criteria
  • Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
  • Publication of original research
  • Management training
  • Completed training as Clinical and Educational Supervisor, and experience in supervising medical and non medical colleagues
Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
  • Autonomous clinical practitioner
  • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
  • Ability to motivate and develop other medical colleagues and other MDT members
  • To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole
  • An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Post holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner.
Desirable criteria
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
  • Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation
