Role: Senior Scrub Theatre Practitioner / Spinal and Neurology Location: The Wellington Hospital
Hours: Permanent, Full time 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: 4 or 5 days a week, Occasional Saturdays
Salary: Competitive + Shift Enhancement

We are looking for a Senior Theatre Practitioner with experience in Spinal and Neuro Complex cases to join our Theatre department at The Wellington Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC. The theatres across our facilities provide a vibrant, exciting and professional environment where the advanced equipment and technology is second to none.

The Wellington Hospital provides the highest level of care for patients who are looking for the best treatment in key areas of healthcare, including: neurosurgery, spinal surgery, cardiac care, orthopaedics, acute neurological rehabilitation, gynaecology and cancer care. They have 13 Theatres across 3 buildings covering multiple surgical specialties. Successful candidates will be part of a large theatre team of colleagues, experienced professionals. The Wellington Hospital has a successful track record of career progression, offering support and development to those seeking to aspire higher or widen their knowledge, including a Surgical First Assistant Course.

What you will do:
  • Provide high‑quality care to patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures including Spinal / Neuro.
  • Run theatre lists and set up theatres.
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field, assist the surgical team, and ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative period.
  • Work as a team member in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.
  • Ensure safety for patients and colleagues.
What you will bring:
  • Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
  • HCPC Registration or NMC Pin
  • Currently working as a Senior Scrub Theatre Practitioner covering Spinal and Neuro.
  • Experience working with 1 or 2 complex spinal cases including: ALIF, Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion, TLIF‑Transforaminal, XLIF‑Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion, intradural lesions, craniotomies.
  • Other ideal experience: orthopaedics and general surgery.
  • Team player.
  • Confident to set up theatres, run theatre lists, and ask questions.
