Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (M&E Works)

Location: Buntingford, Hertfordshire

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About the Role:

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Quantity Surveyor to oversee the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) packages on various construction projects based from our Buntingford office. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of M&E works, ensuring best value and robust cost control from procurement through to final account.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all cost aspects relating to M&E packages, including procurement, tendering, budgeting, and valuation.
  • Prepare and analyze costings for tenders and contracts.
  • Administer subcontractor and supplier accounts, including payment notices, variations, and final accounts.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and design teams to assess project requirements and ensure alignment with budgets.
  • Monitor progress on-site and provide commercial support to ensure project delivery within budget.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities relating to the M&E scope.
  • Support value engineering exercises and contribute to design development from a commercial standpoint.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and relevant legislation (e.g., NEC/JCT contracts).
  • Produce detailed cost reports and forecasts for senior management.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role, with proven experience in M&E works.
  • Strong understanding of building services, including mechanical (HVAC, plumbing) and electrical systems.
  • Familiar with relevant contract forms (JCT, NEC) and strong contractual awareness.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel; experience with QS software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX, Causeway) is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
