Overview
Senior Mechanical Estimator based in London (WC1X 8NX) to lead the cost-estimating process for mechanical construction and installation projects. You will deliver accurate forecasts, guide tender pricing, and drive profitable project outcomes across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related mechanical systems. Minimum 5 years’ experience required.
Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed quantity take-offs, material assessments, labor costing, and equipment expense estimates.
- Review architectural/mechanical drawings, project specs, and BoQs.
- Solicit and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project teams to optimize designs and manage risk.
- Incorporate overheads, contingencies, and margin into proposals.
- Maintain and update cost databases, benchmarks, and unit rate libraries.
- Analyze actual versus estimated project costs to refine future estimates.
- Mentor and oversee junior estimators.
- Present and defend estimates to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Track market trends: material pricing, labor rates, and regulatory changes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- At least 5 years of mechanical estimating experience in construction or industrial sectors.
- Proven ability to estimate mechanical projects (HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection).
- Competency in take-off tools (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff) and cost-estimating software (e.g., CostOS, Sage).
- Strong analytical skills, financial literacy, and negotiation capability.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or similar preferred.
- Professional certification (e.g., AACE, ASPE) is advantageous.
